Today someone asked "So do you have any prospects?" and I was like wow u just made me sound so super desperate rn like wtf lol. idk it came off like I'm just waiting around for prospects and poor lil old me just doesn't have any leads or something when that is not the case. Then a large group got into a discussion about how often people try to hook me up with ppl and then it became a large discussion about my love life and I wanted to die.

To be fair, in that 1-2 years, you're presumably spending more time with the significant other than the job.

 

I mean

a job is not a person lol

 

But the topic is about a hypothetical lifelong commitment.

 

I wouldn't get too worked up about the use of 'prospects'. Myself and some perpetually single friends ask each other questions like that to see if someone has anyone they're working towards dating or similar. Doesn't sound desperate to me at all.

As for all that calling your partner at work stuff, fuck that. I don't mind being texted at work, as I can reply at leisure, but in the middle of a work day, I do not want to take a social call. Especially not on a regular basis.

Hmm. Idk. Are you thinking for a part time job? I think it would be hard to find (at least) 40 hours a week to spend with a SO. I personally probably spend maybe 10 hours a week with my SO and that includes a lunch or two since we work in the same office.

The idea of spending more than 40 hours with a person (in a personal setting - not the office where we're not always in contact / working together) in a week, consistently, would likely make me come close to killing them.

 

Maybe it weirded me out because it wasn't a friend who asked idk. And I've never really discussed a huge desire to date espesh to randos at work so I was like lol back off with ur assumptions about prospects!

 

Living with a SO/spouse ain't always easy but it's definitely worth it ultimately

I think your reaction is more than fair. It would be annoying if a friend worded it that way. From someone you don't really know, it's both shitty and anachronistic.

 

Yeah it's the same coworker who wanted to put me on an online dating site so I didn't give the benefit of the doubt ha. Like let me liiiiive, coworkers!

 

Presumably -- and maybe this is a bad assumption -- but anyone talking about marriage has likely lived with a significant other. In that respect, you're spending way more than 40 hrs a week with said person. Even when my girlfriend and I lived apart, we were spending pretty much Friday night through sunday night together, which would be around 30+ hours, not to mention any mid-week time we'd spend together. I don't think it's that far off, IMO.

But, it obviously varies person to person. I tend to sink into relationships pretty hard and spend a ton of my time with said partner.

Its alright. I tried to explain to her why I was upset, and she stared at me, then started texting her friend on her phone. Told her I'm moving out by the end of the month.

 

Well it sounds like you made the right choice. From what you've said, she's been incredibly cold and hasn't made any effort to make things better
