Haha the optimism! My bf and i started dating at 18 and we are 25 now. I get what you are saying but if it meant to be, it will continue. if not, life goes on! best of luck lol. like a few others said, it's not impossible to maintain a relationship even if you feel like you started dating at a young age.

 

Is being with someone forever even ideal? I often think of the sort of compromises involved in the average relationship magnified by decades and that seems to be asking too much of any partner. I think five year increments work better.

 

Today I was thinking how just on chorus I've told the same stories multiple times cause I've been here forever and I can't imagine being that boring to a partner cause we've heard all each other's stories already. I mean I guess we can ~create new ones or whatever cheesy line it would be, but I can't guarantee I'm that interesting lol

 

i retell stories to my bf all the time. he gives me a hard time about it but i can't help i have shit memory.

 

I mean the opposite side to this is do you find someone to break up with them eventually? Just a lot of emotions and complications to deal with repeatedly lol. I know I personally don't like that at least

 

Being with someone forever seems exhausting and breaking up seems exhausting. Dating is too much work.

Maybe just treating it like other necessarily transitory things makes it easier to cope with. I mean, when we enter into relationships with the idea of forever, we don't really mean eternity, it means until one of us dies and we accept that. Maybe breakups should be treated similarly.

 

I don't really feel like I have to be interesting now since i embraced that I'm super boring lol. But at least when you dont know someone well theres always something new to learn. I just don't want my life to be in a boring cycle of boring with someone. I guess theoretically if you're happy with someone it's not boring but sometimes I hear the most mind numbingly boring convo from longterm couples and I'm like ugggh don't let it be me!!!

I think the key is to watch shitty reality TV together, fiancée and I always have plenty of dumb drama to talk about that way

I'd like to think there's a happy medium between boring and arguing. Maybe? Lol idk. I feel like I never really see examples of relationships that I'd want. Either the couple is so boring I want to scream or they're a mess. I think that's why my ideal is maybe either having a few meaningful relationships that represented that time in my life even if it's not forever, or to sorta keep my distance where we still hang out and do couple stuff but aren't like talking to each other every single day and texting about boring nothingness. At least right now the "traditional" Relationship just doesn't sound appealing but idk what I'd want as an alternative either.

I have question for y'all, specifically having to do w/ internet dating, but it applies elsewhere..how do you talk to people when you don't have like an immediate common interest? If someone say on OkCupid doesn't have any common interests, I have no idea what to say and 99% of the time I don't message them. Maybe that's okay? I don't know, but I feel like I might be being too picky.

 

I just go with jokes usually. Personality compatibility is more important than sharing hobbies or liking the same music

Usually based on something in their profile. In general I think it helps to show you're not taking it too seriously.
