....i mean, i don't ask for the printed results but that's definitely a discussion I have upfront regarding safety, last time since previous test and results as much as they're willing to discuss, any other follow up questions, etc.

I'm in the camp of always offering to suit up, even if I know the lady is on the pill. I feel like I at least need to show I was prepared to be good, even in cases where I'm pretty sure they won't ask me to.

While I don't insist on a doctor's note, I do typically not like going bare with someone I don't know reasonably well. Although there are no hard and fast rules on that and I am known to contradict myself.

 

If it’s someone I just started seeing/or if it’s someone I barely know and we are in that mood I prefer to wear one, just because you don’t know the sexual history of them. But if it is someone I have been dating for a few months and I know they haven’t been with anyone since then I don’t think about using on as much (obviously as long as she is okay either way also)

But I also get checked about every six months just for peace of mind also.

 

I always get nervous cause I have so many friends who were married or in long term relationships and were having unprotected sex, obv cause they're married or together forever, and then they find out their partner was cheating which I guess is just a risk u have to take on. I know lots of stds can be managed or cleared up completely but I feel like I'd die from the stress of the ordeal!! If I could put someone in one of those quarantine scrubdowns beforehand tho that would be handy!! Useless against stds but at least they would be clean hygiene wise!!

Thats is why I always shower before sex. Bodies are gross and germy.

 

I just don't trust men in general, anyone in this thread is fine but otherwise major red flag if someone is like " it's fine we don't need protection trust me"

I think both genders can manage to be pretty gross if they try hard enough (don’t try?)

 

that's also not to make those with stds a pariah or anything. most of them are curable and treatable and i know that those who were in situations like kiana described that received them from situations in which they were lied to have a stigma against them by some future partners.

I think all people can be gross, but I think women are held to higher or more rigorous standards of beauty and hygiene than men tend to be. Of course anyone can circumvent that, but since most men I encounter don't even have a routine to take care of their body or skin I am skeptical... and also from that one Reddit thread where women talked about their male partners leaving skidmarks on the sheets after sex

 

The other day i was watching tv and some character just got done working out and They were all sweaty and gross and then had sex with another character and I almost died. Same when I'm watching shows that took place in like the 1900s and I imagine the bad breath

And def also this! It's hard to undo the stigma set forth by like high school health classes and the pictures and stuff they'd show. I think there needs to be a better way to show people to take precautions while not being like THIS WILL DEFINITELY HAPPEN AND IT WILL BE SHAAAAMEFUL. It's so awesome that so many things are curable. I know i had to get tested after a situation with an ex and that feeling of vulnerability and not knowing was soooo stressful and scary, but it was also comforting knowing that so many are treatable. And oddly knowing how common they are is both stressful and relieved my stress cause it made me feel like i would be less alone if my results had been positive.
