along these lines, the power in my parents subdivision went out for a bit last night so I took their dog for a walk with a flashlight like normal but holy FUCK was it dark because no lights on anywhere of course. Made me randomly think “Jesus, how dark did it look / feel before electricity when you just had candles and shit??? The whole world would stop at 5 during winters in the US because you wouldn’t be able to see a damn thing!” And it also made me realize how fucking frightening everything must have been since it was so dark. Imagine getting lost somewhere in the literal pitch black with nothing to help but fucking stars or the moon?? Honestly surprised humanity is still around lol
