When I'm on after hours on call for work and the phone rings and I completely die inside because I don't want to go in, but it's only a spam call. Literally the only time I praise Jesus it's a spam caller.
I was in the Taco Bell drive thru and gave the guy at the window my card. He dropped it and it fell in the space between my car and the wall. I was about to open my door and crouch down to get it, but he said “I got it.” He jump out the window head first and I thought he was going to hit his head on the street. I let out four midwestern “opes” cause I was so bewildered. His coworker next to him was doing something and held onto his feet with their other hand, like the two have done this routine before. The guy grabbed my card and popped right back up, swiped my card, and gave me my food. Fast food workers don’t get paid enough for shit like that.
I went to the national park that my second favorite film was shot at. I’ve been wanting to go there for a while and it was all I imagined it would be.
My first favorite film has no connection to the park (The Social Network) but my second favorite film is King Hu’s ‘A Touch of Zen.’ It’s a 1971 Wuxia film that was filmed in Taiwan and the first (and possibly only) Wuxia film to win at the Cannes festival. It’s slow and long but is regarded as many as the “epic” of the genre, if there can be such a thing. The choreography, the angles, the atmosphere. All top notch and moved the genre to a peak that, imo, hasn’t been met by any other film. It’s one of the few films I actively keep up with in regard to any new showings. I was able to watch it on the big screen in the US and Taiwan. I traveled to another city to watch a documentary about the making of Hu’s films last week and the filming locations of ‘A Touch of Zen’ were shown in present day. I left with a to-do list.
King Hu’s ‘A Touch of Zen.’ He also filmed a few of his other films (Dragon Inn, Legend of the Mountain, The Valiant Ones) in the surrounding areas but the national park has more screen time in ‘Touch of Zen.’
We kind of half assed Christmas since our youngest was born December 8th last year. My wife is making up for lost time now!
Checking your YouTube channel for the first time in a while and seeing someone left a nice comment on a video.
Going to the record store for no particular reason other than to just browse. Best alone and with headphones in, queueing up a song from any record that has an interesting cover that I’ve never heard before
