Oh damn. Good for the band then. Listening now and skipping over songs I've replayed over already. I am so into this.
For anyone not able to grab a tri-color vinyl, These ones are limited to 300 and look cool. Real Friends - Composure | Smartpunk Exclusive
Question: Why do people compare this band (Along with other bands in the style like Knuckle Puck and Like Pacific) to The Starting Line? Like, I have no clue how the screamy, whiny meandering mess that pop-punk has become even remotely compares to the annoyingly earwormy but tight songs they wrote. (PS, No shade, this album is great)
Aside from the dangerous summer, 99% of the time when people make TSL comparisons I never hear the similarities. Like those bands you mentioned sound nothing like TSL to me. This new song, though, truly does sound like it could be a track on say it like you mean it or based on a true story.
The delivery of the line "Looking back on my youth, it's good that I grew" from "Stand Steady" is, like, 110% TSL.
This is ok. Probably will grow on me a little. Main complaint right now is that the vocals are a little overdone to my ears and would better serve the songs if they were more restrained. There are some cool melodies though. They’ve come a long way since that awful first album, that’s for sure.
To be fair, The Dangerous Summer only sounded like TSL/Kenny on Reach for the Sun. That album pretty much picked up where TSL left off after Direction.
I just worked out to this album. So many interesting parts throughout. It has the right amount of pop mixed in with heavy moments. They all sound amazing on it too. Top 3 early favorites for me: Hear What You Want Take a Hint Unconditional Love
Multiple members of Real Friends have stated that TSL is their favorite band, so there’s that influence as well.
Gotta say I'm impressed with a number of these "new wave" pop punk bands. Between this, the State Champs album, and the Knuckle Puck album from last year, they're putting out way better material than I had thought they could. Neck Deep still blows, but oh well.
You’ve listened to the warm thoughts record right? In fact everyone in here should listen to that album
