This song is AWESOME wow

I think this band has done a good job of shifting their sound from album to album just enough to stay fresh and not get stagnant, but they are not shifting from their core sound

 

exactly, the weird subtle disco element meshes really well but it’s still very much a Real Estate song

one of the best bands going, gonna be a great spring record

This ended up being much less of a departure than I expected, not that that's a bad thing. The first few songs definitely set me up to expect a much different record though. I really enjoyed this though, a couple songs in particular. Friday, Also a But, The Main Thing, and Procession are all fantastic. And of course, Paper Cup, which continues to blow my mind. Can't wait to dive in again.

 

I agree that it doesn't feel too far off from their regular practice of continued refinement without drastic changes

 

I liked, but didn’t love this. No doubt it will grow on me. Less immediate than I was expecting after “Paper Cup” but it’s cool

 

Waiting to spin this to listen, high hopes based on the interviews I've read and what the band has said they were trying to accomplish with this record

 

Pretty good but sounds like I’m listening to it on the radio or something. Everything sounds flat and compressed.

On my first listen now and really enjoying it, there’s a lot of great guitar work. I think Also a But is my highlight so far.

Edit: Yeah Also a But is cool as shit, that solo

 

The solo in that song and in You are album highlights for me. Wish there was a little more of that willingness to jam spread throughout the record.

 

There’s never been a bad Real Estate album

 

I'd agree for the most part. I actually don't think I ever listened to In Mind more than a few times. Not sure why but it never resonated. Atlas was my favorite up until this one, which is giving that record a run for its money.

 

Dropping in to say that this was definitely in my top 5 of 2020. Might be my favorite album from them.

 

Finally

 

The Main Thing is their best album IMO. Absolutely cannot wait for whatever comes next.
