This is spectacular. "Just Want You To Know the Truth" is pretty easily the best thing they've ever done, wow.
New article from NPR published today too: The best new albums out Feb. 6 : All Songs Considered Edit: the main quote is in the Instagram post apparently:
Really enjoyed this on my first listen, current stand outs for me are 'Light Night Mountains All That', 'What's Right?', and 'Burn it Down'
one of my record stores put this out yesterday and I was able to grab a signed copy didn't get a chance to spin it early but I can't wait to go home and put it on
Just finished the album, really good as expected, not sure if it tops The Window though at first blush but excited to find new things when listening at the album release show tonight. This might be neither here nor there but hopefully there are no hijinks related to this show. I tried to go to the GN album release show in 2017 (I think?), drove an hour and a half from the suburbs to Schuba’s only to find it got sold out lol. So I had a drink ant the bar and then drove all the way back. A couple years later I successfully got tickets to the Printer’s Devil release show at Lincoln Hall. Last show I saw pre COVID as everything shut down two weeks later lol. My friend who I went with had to high tail it back to his native Australia shortly thereafter when borders were closing and I didn’t see him again for almost 4.5 years. Hoping all is well with this one tonight!
so excited to hear this tonight. i ran the window and printers devil back to back on a long drive today and was thinking about how good it is that the band is finally getting their flowers
I lost my spot in between sets and by the time I came back I was a goner in the back by the merch, awful place to view a show from at Beat Kitchen They did sound great I just wish I could have seen them for more than the last quarter of the show
In 2015 I was still living at home with my parents, and I remember I couldn’t sleep, and it was like 3 AM - and for reasons I cannot recall I had hopped on Bandcamp. They had an auto-player on their website at the time and I was mainly listening for background noise but I heard this song - it was “Charles Bernstein” by Ratboys, a band I had never heard of before. I immediately grabbed my credit card to create an account and bought the album on the spot. To see the success they’re experiencing now over a decade later could bring a tear to my eye. Getting to see them last year and talk to Julia briefly at the show was so cool - she is just the nicest person, and such a brilliant song writer. Just an awesome band and they are just leveling up on each release. This album is absolutely incredible. I’ll post some more thoughts later, but I am just so happy for all the success they’re experiencing.
