What is your favorite Best Picture Winner from the 1920s/30s? Note: For some reason you're now only allowed ten options on polls, so I made an executive decision on which to not include.
The first of only three films to win Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay at the Oscars. I'm going with it as well, although there are a lot of good films here. Speaking of comedies, I also remember enjoying You Can't Take It With You when I saw it, although it's been a while since I have. What's next, picking the best of all the poll winners? All Quiet On The Western Front Casablanca On The Waterfront Lawrence of Arabia The Godfather Platoon The Silence of the Lambs No Country for Old Men Moonlight
ive seen more of these than i did the 40s or 50s list (thank you film classes in college) I'll go with western front (it happened one night a close 2nd)
A few I love here You made the right call excluding Cimarron (which is fine but creaky due to age), The Broadway Melody (which is just a competently made backstage "musical" from a moment when Hollywood wasn't sure what made a good sound movie yet) and Cavalcade, which is just not good. Had to pick It Happened One Night, but I was tempted to give Grand Hotel the vote just so somebody would. Very underrated winner.
