the thing about Amnesiac is it has Sardines, Pyramid Song, Knives Out, and Glasshouse. i like the album even more than Kid A most of the time. also if you blast Pulk/Pull it sounds like the soundtrack to an existential crisis.
Actually, for me Amnesiac was a very immediate album and OK Computer is the one I've had the most trouble getting into. I know that's probably weird.
my friend Kristen agrees with this, we began a wonderful friendship over Radiohead and she’s one of the smartest people I know
Amnesiac might have the best set of b-sides for any album I've heard. what a treasure trove those sessions produced
Continued first impressions, and I'm including Thom's other projects in my run The Eraser was not what I was expecting but I actually loved it. There is also a song with Kanye, Lupe and Pharrell that samples the title track and I had no idea it was from this album After all I've heard about it, I didn't think In Rainbows would be such a (relatively) straightforward album, but I think that's why it's so good. Definitely lives up to the hype, several amazing songs on here King of Limbs was also not what I was expecting and it wasn't my favorite but I did really really enjoy about 80% of it, only a couple songs didn't really land for me
The Eraser is a stunning record, loved hearing Analyse during the credits of The Prestige. This is also essential viewing I played The King of Limbs a ton when I was struggling with anxiety and panic attacks; Separator somehow managed to soothe me
these days i am preferring to listen to all of Thoms newer solo stuff and some choice Smile tracks im still not a huge fan of a bit of AMSP. TKOL feels like less content - but taken as it is rather than what it isnt, its fine.
I keep saying this but the Atoms for Peace album was definitely not what I was expecting, especially from a group with Flea in it. Basically just sounds like a sequel to The Eraser but I really really liked it Tomorrow's Modern Boxes keeps the same sound but I did start to space out a little in the second half. I can tell I'm gonna really like zoning out to Thom's solo stuff when I'm in a certain mood
A Moon Shaped Pool honestly wasn't really my favorite. I absolutely loved Burn the Witch but then the rest kind of had me spacing out for most of it, I think I was expecting more rock instrumentation using orchestral instruments like that song had so the ambient vibe was a little disappointing on first listen. I'll go back in knowing what to expect and I'm sure it'll grow on me though Amina was really cool and I absolutely loved the short film, I couldn't take my eyes off it the whole time. I'm really glad I included Thom's solo stuff The Smile album was awesome, a great mix of the older guitar-driven stuff and Thom's other electronic stuff
My official ranking based on only one listen to each 1. OK Computer 2. The Bends 3. Kid A 4. In Rainbows 5. Hail to the Thief 6. Amnesiac 7. Pablo Honey 8. The King of Limbs 9. A Moon Shaped Pool If I included the Thom ones they'd probably be around the 6-8 mark with Eraser being the best one, Amok would probably be right around there too, and The Smile would be after HTTT Remember this is strictly first impressions in case you guys think the order is weird or bad lol, I fully plan on really diving into all of these albums. I waited way too long to get into these guys but I'm glad I finally did
