As a relatively casual fan who hasn't followed this closely, I'm just trying to figure out exactly what their transgressions are. All I've seen is a mealy-mouthed statement from Thom that's disappointing, but not really "burn their discog" worthy. Have any members made stridently pro-Israel statements over the past year, or otherwise shown they're actually OK with what's going down in Gaza? As far as members playing shows in Israel, since that's not something I keep track of... I'm just wondering whether alllllll the other bands that are still deemed acceptable here are participating in a boycott, or would if they had a sizable audience in that country. Like, I'm very much against what Israel is doing, and Thom's statement isn't great... but unless there's more to it, this does feel pretty overblown. Happy to be shown why it isn't, though.
From what I've read, Israel was one of the first areas even before the UK/US that where the band saw success so maybe they have some sort of misinformed allegiance? Also, I don't think they or, really, ANY Western act has played in Israel since this war broke out. Otherwise, there's a long list of Western acts that have played Israel aside from Radiohead over the years (Depeche Mode, Guns N Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica to name a few).
i mean, their career or notoriety probably won't be significantly impacted by people not engaging with them anymore because of their views on Palestine, and i don't think most people are expecting it to be impacted that way (even though it realistically should be). that doesn't change the fact that their centrist whataboutism is fucking ridiculous. we're expressing disappointment about that above all else, and people have the right to publicly do so, regardless of whether there's any direct impact on listenership, touring, or notoriety.
It sucked in 2017 and it sucks even more in 2025. They used to be my favourite band and now I can't fucking stand them. Free Palestine.
Isn’t Johnny married to an Israeli woman and she has ties obviously? I’m assuming he also is pro Israel
No one thinks this. Doesn't change a single thing about what should or shouldn't happen in this thread though.
I'd say OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows are regarded as their best, or at least most influential. There's a lot to pick from, though, and Amnesia, In Rainbows Disk 2, and King of Limbs have a lot of good cuts. And then A Moon Shaped Pool is stunning in its own right.
Well I guess it is official, and the rumor is U.S. dates in late 2026/early 2027. Echoing the above though that their recent actions have soured me on them quite a bit even though I would love to see them again in a perfect world. Such a shame.
Kanye would be an interesting point of comparison, albeit a little extreme. Two groundbreaking artists that I would be so excited to introduce friends or my own family to, soured by either complicit or full-throated support of genocide. I don't know if I'll ever burn either discography completely, tbh, but at least for now, any relationship I have with the music stays with me and is not something I am interested in endorsing publicly. Whole thing stinks!
HasItLeaked is deceptively reputable. I'll believe it when I see it. Edit: free Palestine, Zionists get fucked forever
lol yeah, hard for me to get excited at this point in time. been mostly skipping their shit when it comes up on shuffle lately
