my local record store is getting the 7 inch but they don't know when. and they're getting the opaque white album, but it's 30 euro's and i just bought 3 dikembe albums for 40 :/
I'm going to a local record shop tomorrow like two hours before it opens to try and get the 7". It's going for over £50 on eBay so hope the guy will stick to his word and have 2 for people in store, as I just want it for collecting purposes tbh. Also the white vinyl looks awesome but £60 special edition full steam ahead haha
Yep, feeling increasingly pessimistic about having a chance to be honest when they're at these prices.
After another listen I think I realized what my main problem with the record is. The production, verse/ chorus structures, and vocal melodies make it seem now more than on previous albums like Thom is a lead singer rather than just another instrument. There are less effects on Thoms voice and when there are effects, its usually just a layer rather than the effect being on the main voice. Ive always loved that Thom used his voice as more of an instrument to add to the song rather than being the focus of the song and that seems to be missing this time around. Its definitely still a good album and as I listen more I'm sure I'll come to accept it but its a shame that they went that route, especially since no other band was able to pull that off like they did.
it is a good and pleasant album nothing was reinvented when it easily could have been (in my mind) ful stop and glass eyes are fantastic tracks. the latter is revelatory live could be a whole other thing tho honestly with this band and it remains to be seen if they will tour with LSO which could really set the thing off if extra movements are added or liberties are taken with the tracks (Im hoping)
Honestly I think I already like this as much as in rainbows. It's at least close. I love every song and there are so many things I anticipate as soon as I hit play.
I'd agree it's close but In Rainbows is literally perfect front to back. Love that album beyond words.
I can't stop listening to this record. My only complaint is that I feel like starting with Burn the Witch and Daydreaming feels weird.
This is exactly how I feel. Always thought Radiohead were overhyped, but this album is blowing up my world right now and is making me second guess everything.
I feel left out for waiting for my vinyl to come in for that mp3 code. So far still only heard the singles. Daydreaming is incredible.
My only gripe with this album is the artwork. Esp considering all the cool artwork they've been posting as of late.
I feel pretty confident now in saying this is a superior album to In Rainbows, though it's close. I just think that in most corresponding areas, this one is better: -Comparable if not higher highs (Decks Dark and Daydreaming vs. Weird Fishes and Reckoner) -Higher lows (The Numbers, Desert Island Disk vs. House of Cards and All I Need) -More interesting arrangements/use of the studio -Better closer They're both excellent but I've just never totally been on board with the "In Rainbows is a masterpiece" line of thinking. Imo, this album holds a much more unique place in their catalog - IR feels super derivative of OKC to me whereas this one stands on its own much more akin to the way their three classic albums do.
I just tried to do a massive track by track average and both In Rainbows and AMSP got exactly the same score lol The only difference for me is the highs of In Rainbows are a lot better. Reckoner will always be my favourite RH song.
I think "All I Need" is better than anything on this album, haha. I also think "Videotape" is better than anything on here. I still need to spend more time with this but at the moment it's my least favourite of their post Honey stuff other than maybe HTTT.
