We still have Weightless and The Voyage of Time yet to be released, but Malick's got another movie lined up - a WWII biopic about Franz Jagerstutter starring August Diehl.

The last time Malick tackled WWII he made one of my favorite films ever, so hopes are high for this one.

Not only is it going to play at Cannes, but Terence Malick is producing a documentary about Lil Peep.

A clip that short feels like trolling.

Honestly, I rarely trust critics on Malick, especially festival reviews. But will be curious to see what some of my favorites who are at the fest have to say.

adore all of his films, even the extremely indulgent ones, so ill likely enjoy this no matter what. plus getting to see bruno ganz one more time is just terrific. malick and film critics is an interesting minefield. there is a sense I think that he appeals to the elitist/art house critics only, a sort of upper echelon, which I'm not necessarily sure is even true anymore

I agree. I feel like his obscuring of narrative really puts people off, but most of his films have some sort of expression of universal human emotions.

I think it’s a minority opinion, but I really think Knight of Cups and Song to Song are among his very best works (next to The Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line), so I’m arguably more excited for what he’s up to now than in the beginning of the decade.

What does that mean, exactly? Every reaction I've read is some variation on "return to form," "best film since Tree of Life," etc.

I fully stand behind To the Wonder/Knight of Cups/Song to Song as a poetic trilogy that will absolutely be re-evaluated in like ten years.
