Yeah this one is upper-tier REM, definitely one of my top 2-3 most listened to REM albums. So so underrated
Some days New Adventures is my favourite REM album. Some days it's Murmur. Some days Automatic. Those three rotate based on my mood and the season and which song is stuck in my head for no discernible reason. And their other albums are all pretty great too.
Document is kind of a juncture for them, between the more indie rock sound of their '80s stuff and their alt-rock radio imperial phase of the '90s. So really, you could go either backwards or forwards. What were your favorite songs?
probably finest work song, welcome to the occupation, and oddfellows also need a jimmy cover of finest work song—feels like they’d do it perfectly
ive always wanted to hear the national cover "country feedback." it reminds me of them so much and I can hear Matt sing "its crazy what you could have had" haha
If you like Document then just head forwards from there chronologically, then go back to the old stuff at the end
same my dad and I were watching a bunch of R.E.M. videos on YouTube last night and he turned to me during a performance of “The One I Love” and told me that if he were 10 years younger and heard them in the 80s, they would have been huge for him
Brian Eno and Michael Stipe are releasing a song together next week! “I’ve just finished a piece this morning with Michael Stipe,” says Eno, revealing an exclusive collaboration with the former REM singer called Future If Future. “This will be the first time I’ve worked with him, though I did sing with him once on Saturday Night Live or something like that,” smiles the 73-year-old, in his west London recording studio. “I’m very pleased with the way it’s gone. It’s a very good song, a very Stipe song. Beautiful lyrics, extraordinary piece.” ‘Capitalism didn’t understand community’: Brian Eno steps up the climate crisis battle
