MY FAV ALBUM by R.E.M. it's probably the most off-the-wall album by the lads ....great psychedelic sound.
it’s great (if not a little too spooky) but more importantly how do you feel about michael stipes physical form?
I’m just starting to listen to these guys - been listening to Out of Time a lot - not sure what to get into next
I've been listening to Automatic for the People almost nonstop for the last week or so - it's a phenomenal album. I've heard Everybody Hurts in movies but never knew it was REM. Very pleasant surprise to hear it here and I love the song. Checked out Murmur yesterday and really enjoyed that as well. I'm a fan
Nice! You can’t really go wrong, wherever you decide to go next. My recommendation would be to keep going with the ‘90s stuff, but I’m sure folks have different opinions on that.
They have a couple of live albums on Tidal that I checked out and got a feel for a lot of their other stuff. I really liked Electric Blue and was not a big fan of Cuyahoga if that helps haha. Maybe that one will grow on me I believe Thom Yorke's favorite album (or at least one of) is Reckoning so I'm definitely interested in checking that out in the very near future
So "Electron Blue" comes from Around the Sun, which a lot of fans hate. I actually love that record: it was my first R.E.M. album, other than the greatest hits, but the party line is usually that those songs were better live. I'm torn between telling you to listen to that album before you dive much deeper, because you might end up appreciating it more that way...and telling you to wait, since it's not generally seen as an essential album from them. Reckoning and Murmur are a pretty complementary pair, so if you liked Murmur, you'll probably like Reckoning. I personally like Reckoning a little better of the two.
Automatic For The People 25th Anniversary is available in Dolby on Apple Music if anybody else wants Michael Stipe to devastate them in brand new ways today. Definitely not me listening to Sweetness Follows on repeat and sobbing.
It’s because the live and bonus tracks are only lossless. If you play the album tracks, the now playing screen shows they’re Dolby.
Don't know if this has been posted but a local Australian band released this to try and raise funds to tie them over through Covid via Bandcamp sales. I listen to it quite regularly (Apologies if posted previously)
