I think Abra is R&B. It's definitely experimental though, or rather retro.

 

Her two EPs before the album are really great too. Excited for new stuff.

 

I told a buddy that it sounds like if Shannon (of "Let the Music Play" fame) had come up in the era of Frank and The Weeknd.

 

I made me think of Aaliyah singing over early New Edition beats.

 

I just found that new Lloyd song through Spotify. I like it. I've been following him since Southside (it's muuuurrddaaa) and I have recently been wondering where he went.

 

Looking forward to Craig David's release this Friday. Should be a return to form.

 

It's really good, he's a very talented guy!

I'm listening on Apple Music. I'm in the UK though, I don't know where you're based but I'm not sure if it's available in America/other regions yet.

 

I asked Craig on twitter what the deal was and he said it's only available for physical purchase in the states. I pre-ordered a copy and still haven't received it. Hoping it's in the mail today.

Anyone listen to theMIND's album Summer Camp? Some great songs on it. Reminds me of if Frank Ocean and Thundercat decided to make music together.

 

I finally listened to Brown Sugar and Voodoo today. Black Messiah was one of my favourite albums of 2014 so I have no idea why it took me this long. I'm pretty much blown away with how good they are.

 

new SiR Ep sounds pretty good

 

voodoo is an all timer. have you checked out the other "neo soul" records from that era? maxwell, erykah, bilal, lauryn, etc? lots of classics in like a 5 year timespan.

Neo soul is definitely a genre I want to explore some more. I've listened to Maxwell & Bilal's more recent stuff, need to dig deeper into their discographies though. What's the best Erykah album?

 

Baduizm is the place to start for sure. New Amerykah Pt 2: Return of the Ankh is really good too.

 

I dug up my copy of Pleasure and Pain today and once again realised that 112 has an amazing catalog. That's a reunion (an album that is, I know they are performing) I'd like to see.

I listened to Baduizm today, it's such a great album. I'm excited to discover how her music progressed over all the albums she followed it up with. Thanks for the recommendation!

 

Definitely listen to Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite. One of my favorite R&B albums.
