oh hell yeah, i already see some names I'm familiar with and have enjoyed (Leon Bridges, Q, JMSN, Daniel Caesar, Raven Lenae, Syd, Snoh Aalegra, Gallant). thank you! excited to go through this list
Not sure if I shared this before or not, but just in case anyone here needs an entry point into the G.O.A.T. now that she's been nominated for the HoF
I haven't listened to the new Usher record, but watching his halftime performance made me put on Confessions for the millionth time right now. Definitely one of the 3 best R&B albums of the 00s. The version on Spotify is full of bonus shit though, and not as strong as the original release.
@irthesteve Have you checked out/heard about the Tori Kelly album that just came out? I started listening right now. Apparently all the songs from the EP are on there too. The cover is cool.
My gut take is the EP songs are the best material and the newer half of the album is bizarre at times, and not as good. That being said, the highs are HIGH
I also read that the was "too busy" to get a choir or do all the vocal takes to layer her vocals on "high water" so they used AI to replicate the effect, which is kinda... dumb
There are a couple tracks on this 1010benja record but otherwise not sure I’m understanding the hype on this one
The music/production itself is arguably the most interesting aspect, like some of the more playful OPN or newer Bjork material. He’s a pretty good singer but not a good rapper. I’ll have to give it another listen at some point.
I think it’s meant to be a challenging listen at times to make those high points really soar. He’s a great singer IMO and the rapping is meant to be off-kilter I think. The whole thing reminds me a bit of What is this Heart-era How to Dress Well.
Are you guys up on this? 80s/early 90s R&B vibes, amazing vocals, old school Janet style. Came out of nowhere for me and blew me away. @OotyPa & @irthesteve I need you on this fr
Just did a little sampling of it and it sounds amazing. Excited to check out the full thing later today
