I'm listening to this right now. I like it, but this, to me, has the same problem a lot of throwback R&B has (unless we're talking throwback songs/albums by big artists) - you clearly hear the the budget is a lot less lower than the what the stuff you are emulating had. It just doesn't quite sound as good.
Amber Olivier Jaz Karis Poppy Ajudha Zilo Olivia Nelson They're all quite new I think, but I like what I'm hearing so far.
“After a relatively fallow period in which R&B was not afforded the same kind of critical prestige that it deserved in the 00's, R&B has experienced a resurgence among independently minded musicians and listeners in the 2010s.” This is a nightmare sentence by the way. Nobody cares or should care about what these kind of fucking critics or “fans” think.
This EP is very good and fun. It's a good example of throwback R&B (which in this case means R&B made 13+ years ago) that sounds right. Very well made.
@Petit nain des Îles New Japanese R&B-ish song. Very fun. Found it on Tokyo Rising, a very good playlist for new Japanese music beyond J-Pop.
I’ve just read about this group (one producer, two female vocalists) in a magazine. They’re going to release an album this year, but this is from their 2017 EP: Really fresh (as is the rest of the EP). It’s experimental, yet familiar. It also just sounds really fucking good.
Reminder that The-Dream's triple album, released in December, is really good and everyone should listen (even if it is ridiculously long)
There is a new India.Arie album and there's some good stuff on it. Some very soulful and lyrically strong tracks. You should check it out.
