Unfortunately no, I forgot everything I learned in school. The German side of my family wouldn't be proud of me haha. I'd like to get back to it this year.

Thanks for the discover! Rola's album is one of the best R&B albums I've heard in recent years. Too bad it won't be recognized due to the language. Her vocals are so smooth, it's like BoA is singing over dreamy Tinashe-y instrumentals.

 

You’re welcome! Definitely one of the best projects in the late 90s to mid 00s R&B style in a while. You really hear that it’s a labor of love. I listened to this interview with her where she talks about her songwriting and that because German is a “harder” sounding language than English she writes lyrics based on how the words sound first. Luckily German is a synonym-heavy language.

I bought this great French R&B album in Paris in 2007. It wasn’t on Spotify the last time I checked but it is now.

French stuff from the 90's and 00's is rarely available on streaming platforms, so I'll end up buying the album in some way soon. Was always looking forward to hear this song on TV before going to school at the time.

I feel like there’s were a lot of similarities between German and French R&B for a while. That makes sense though because at some point that was also the case for French and German rap.

This one is from 2017 and maybe my favorite Dutch song. Tabitha is a great singer.

A lot of Dutch Rap and R&B is heavily influenced by Caribbean and African sounds (also North African and Middle Eastern, but that’s more in the Rap part).

This is a Dutch singer (sings in English) that recently signed to Roc Nation, and this remix with Ghostface is very good. It samples C.R.E.A.M.

 

Listening to this right now and I’m co-signing this. Criminally overlooked album. This would have been end-year list material.
