Judging just based on the low-quality leak... I really, really enjoy this. I think Ronson's production choices are going to be very controversial among the band's fanbase, but personally I think the focus on a "groovier", catchier sound works really well. This is still a QOTSA album and there's a ton of cool instrumental stuff going on still, but it definitely feels different, and for me it works well because of it.
That being said I desperately want a better quality leak soon lol... gonna quickly grow tired if having to increase my volume by like 50% or more to listen to this album.
I listened to the leak once and it satisfied me for now. The volume issues were so bad I'm not going through it again.
I like that Zeppelin comparision, also had a little bit of Them Crooked Vultures vibe sprinkled in there which is a v good thing. I love how that heavy outro comes out of nowhere too.
That outro is my fav part. I was afraid after the first single we weren't going to get any moments like that on the album. ...Like Clockwork had some funky jams too, but usually had some awesome spliced in heavy parts.
On the plus side, while I've been waiting for a higher quality leak I've revisited most of their past discography... so many classic jams.
Really loving these new songs! I'm just really hoping they let Jon go wild on a song or two.. that's all I ask haha.
I listened to that poor quality leak once a few weeks back and it was more than enough to whet my appetite for this. Can't wait to give it a proper listen.
Can't wait to get my preorder. Ideally it'll be waiting for me when I get home today but if not I'm just gonna drive around blasting it in my car tomorrow
