it has some of their best and a handful of their absolute worst. they don’t have any bad records but it’s certainly one of the least good ones
Era Vulgaris and Rated R are my favorite QOTSA records by a decent margin, so the fact that this has been getting a lot of comparisons to the former is really exciting to me. only full song I have heard so far is Emotion Sickness and I really like it and it def scratches that itch a bit. very eager to dive in soon.
without ranking this one yet: lullabies to paralyze songs for the deaf self titled era vulgaris rated r like clockwork villains them crooked vultures probably slots between sftd and s/t
Rated R Lullabies Self Titled Songs for the Deaf Like Clockwork Villians Era Vulgaris I didn't realize consensus was so down on Villians until joining this thread and logging the new album on RYM
it’s like a solid C+/B- with some great songs but something has to be their worst and it’s easily that
Songs for the Deaf (you can't even hear it!) S/T Rated R ...Like Clockwork (TCV) Era Vulgaris Lullabies to Paralyze Villains S/T is very slept on. So many classics on that record. Era and Lullabies are the hardest to place for me. Era wins right now because I'm obsessed with Turnin' on the Screw and Misfit Love. Lullabies has always felt a little bloated to me, but I love a great deal of that bloat. Villains is an easy least favorite, but has some undeniably great songs (Feet Can't Fail Me, Un-Reborn Again, Hideaway, and The Evil Has Landed all rule).
they debuted paper machete and carnavoyeur last night. josh played a 9 string guitar for machete lmao
Put me in the fans of Villains pile please. Rated R and SFTD are my favourites, but that’s probably only because I’ve never given time to the three that came after SFTD. Nor the debut. I really need to get round to them.
I agree, it's mainly because how good the other albums are that I have to rank it so low. Villains really is their only album I don't enjoy as much as the others. But even that has some really good songs.
To face down your demons, you've got to free them. To seize all your demons, carpe demon. By the way I somehow managed to snag a GITD copy from parkave's online store on Saturday and it's already shipped. Apparently it sounds better than most glow in the dark records - has that been your experience with this one, @Drew Beringer?
