I think was how it went. It was semi inspired by The Hold Steadys “I Hope This Whole Thing Didn’t Frighten You”, while I was in college I had kinda fallen in with a crowd of people who weren’t exactly reputable and I’ve always liked the idea of not being able to see how bad things are until you step away or bring in a new perspective. I had started dating someone and when I introduced her to a lot of these people on a Friday night she seemed rly on edge and anxious. Afterwards I asked her what was up and she was like “Kenny....did you listen to anything some of those guys were saying? You’re going to end up in jail if you hang around them any longer”. I live in a small town that is nothing but churches and gas stations too and I think it’s funny that there’s like 7 churches within a 5 mile radius that all claim to be Christian but have wildly different interpretations.
