    Especially given my circumstances lol

Think I'll stick with a honda civic, looking at the accord too or maybe a volkswagen jetta or passat. Was considering subaru too but don't know much about them and not sure I can find one in my price range. If I have to go into another car loan I would prefer to get a 2016-2017 (upgrade a bit from my 2015 car) but idk.

do you want to lease or buy?

Buy. I thought about leasing briefly but I would prefer to not deal with the hassle of all that, like having limitations on mileage, etc. Plus I'll have the 10-20% down payment from the check the insurance will send me for my old car.

Certain cars are more advantageous to lease than to buy. I don't want to get too technical, but for example Honda Civics have a high residual % compared to other cars, making their leases typically more attractive than buying. You could take that 10-20% down payment and use it to subsidize your lease payments. That said, I understand the appeal of wanting to keep things simple. I'd pick the car you want and work backwards from there.

If you expect to put more than 15,000 miles on your car in a year, I wouldn't lease then either.

Thanks. It's something to consider for sure. But I find I do a lot of driving and judging by the mileage when I first bought my car to now I would say I'd almost certainly go over. I also like the idea of owning something after I dumped a bunch of money into it, and not having to go through this every 3 years or so.

Not sure about credit score when it comes to paying a loan vs. leasing either, I know paying my car loan every month has greatly helped my credit but I don't know where leasing fits in there.

I like my vw jetta if that helps with anything. Also would not recommend leasing. I leased it then bought it out at the end because I ended up liking it but having to worry about mileage and small car dings for four years wasn't fun. Also not having a car payment is cool too.

I didn't want to lease but I didn't have the down payment to get the monthly payment down to what i was budgeted for. leasing so far has not been a bad experience, i'm currently 2-3k miles under where I should be at this point in the lease, so i've got myself some cushion if i wanted to/needed to make a big trip.

My ex and his family all had volkswagen cars and loved them and I think they're pretty sleek looking, like this one:

I also dream of the day when I don't have a car payment, I should probably not crash my car again then. :verysad:
