I have liked bits of the show so far, but I've always watched each episode in chunks because it's rarely grabbed me enough to sit down for an entire episode.

All it's made me want to do is re-read the comic because it's been so long.

Trust me @RamonaQuimby - watched it with my dad. His words “mate...I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.”

He never gets emotional. That show fucked me UP. And it’s hilarious. And extremely dark. And way too real. Please literally everyone watch After Life. It was a wake-up call for me in being overly reliant on partners too.

I cannot wait for season two. Excellent television, excellent writing. British humour too so that always gets a plus from me.

And looking into his trans comments...there’s a huge miscommunication there. Read this article. The person he was tweeting is actually mocking trans and woke people and Gervais is mocking them for it.

He’s absolutely said inflammatory things in the past and is very ‘anti-PC culture’ in that he likes to get a rise out of people, but I think he’s being genuine in this case.

The headline is quite clearly alluding otherwise but if you actually read the article I personally do believe and understand what he’s saying here. He isn’t just using the ‘it’s a joke’ defence - it’s been taken out of context.

A quote for those who don’t open the article based on the misleading headline:

“Jarvis Dupont is a spoof Twitter account, and the joke is that he’s so woke that he’s actually gone full circle and does terrible things,” Gervais told THR. “And his latest [bit] is, ‘I’m trans now.’ And he gets all that wrong. And I responded by playing along with him, saying, ‘Oh, you’re so much better than biological women because they’ve had a lifetime to get used to it.’ Now, people saw my tweet and they thought he’s a real trans person, but I’m taking the piss out of Jarvis Dupont, who is actually a woman in real life.”

Gervais continued, “And this is the problem. You can say, ‘Listen, I was joking. It’s a joke.’ But that’s not always enough for people. They go, ‘Well, why were you joking?’ Also, add to that the nature of Twitter — it’s so curt, there’s no nuance, it’s there forever out of context.”
