I got this email today for an idea for next week's podcast and I've been thinking about it tonight and I'm not sure how I'd answer — so, I'm tossing it out to the forum because I wanna read responses and steal your ideas for next week's episode: You are alone on an island... You are given an iPad capable of ONLY holding: 1 album 1 movie 1 book What are your choices? You also get to bring 1 miscellaneous item (cannot be phone/internet/laptop/anything connecting to outside world) - what do you choose? You also have access to: 1 drink (unlimited amount for life, and assume fresh drinking water is abundant and readily available) 1 food (again, unlimited amount, but only this food for life) What are your choices?
God I love this game 1 Album: The Get Up Kids - Something To Write Home About 1 Movie: The Shawshank Redemption 1 Book: Slaughterhouse-Five 1 Drink: Cheerwine 1 Food: Hawaiian Pizza Misc Item: probably a drum kit to dick around with, presuming I could repair everything if needed
Album: Since I Left You by The Avalanches Movie: 12 Angry Men Book: The Tibetan Book of the Dead Miscellaneous: Snorkel and mask Drink: Sam Adam's Boston Lager Food: Jambalaya with shrimp, chicken, and sausage, and a huge bowl of broccoli

Album: Thrice - The Alchemy Index Vols 1-IV (a nice range of music here, won't be bored as easily). Movie: V For Vendetta Book: I would also choose Slaugherhouse Five Misc Item: Machete (I can use this to chop down trees and create even more tools) Drink: Pomegranate juice Food: Mongolian beef with fried rice.
Album: Chroma by Cartel (not my favorite album, but probably my favorite beach music) Movie: Godzilla (2014) Book: The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien Miscellaneous: a tent to cover from rain Drink: sweet tea Food: bell peppers
I read it like 5 years ago, I really should read it again. I had completely forgotten about it until trying to think of long books that I'd read in the past.

Hmm... My initial thought what an obvious Devil & God for an album, but then I thought "if I'm alone for the rest of my life, TDAGARIM really going to lighten the mood?"... Probably not. So I actually wouldn't pick it regardless of it being my favorite record haha. Album: Clarity Movie: the Sandlot Book: how to build a boat for dummies Drink: Vanilla Coke Food: cafe rio sweet pork burrito Misc: acoustic guitar
Since this island provides unlimited food and beverages, I assumed it could handle unlimited guitar strings as well.
Haha good point! If only the castaways on Lost could've been so lucky. Alright, that's one of 5 down.
Album: Ryan Adams - Gold This is a hard one. It's a long, at times musically intricate album with a lot of different moods, and some of my favorite songs are on it. Not too sad, which I think would be kind of key during my extended stay. Plus it has a track called "The Rescue Blues", which would be an incredibly ironic listen, regardless of the song's actual subject matter. Book: Betting on the Muse by Charles Bukowski Since I can't get any epic fantasy series (Harry Potter would be a dark horse pick for me, but it's one book...not seven), and The Complete Calvin & Hobbes is a three-book set, I decided to go with something more abstract. I considered my Whitman anthology, but that seemed a little too on-the-nose, like it would be grating after a while. Other potentials were Between Angels by Stephen Dunn (my favorite, but much too short) and Against Expression, a large anthology of uncreative writing that is fun as thought experiments, but not necessarily a compelling read. Ultimately Bukowski seemed absurd and thought-provoking enough for this extended stay. Movie: Dazed and Confused One of my favorite faux-nostalgia movies. I feel like I need a film that's kind of plotless to get through desert island life. Drink: Red Gatorade One of my favorite drinks on hot days, goes well with my chosen food. Food: Cheesesteaks from Jim's Steaks To keep me sane. Misc Item: Acoustic guitar To keep me alive.
1 album: Lydia - Illuminate If I only can take 1 album for my entire life, it is obviously a difficult choice, but I think I would go with my favorite album ever because no matter how long I go without listening I still love every moment of it. I thought about going with something a little more diverse, and my initial thought was "I like it when you sleep..." but I ultimately decided to just go with my favorite. 1 movie: I would probably say Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I know it might be kind of a lame choice, but it would give me more music to listen to, plus it's a really enjoyable movie which would give me some humor for a little while on my deserted island. 1 book: Infinite Jest - David Foster Wallace. I've heard this is a whirlwind to get through and will take you a long, long time, so I figured it would keep me occupied for a while. 1 drink: I probably would have to go Dr. Pepper, which I am convinced is the nectar of the gods. 1 food: Cheesesteak on Garlic Bread. It's a total gamechanger. Miscellaneous Item: Piano or drum kit, since I've always wanted to learn both but never had the patience.
Album: I don't know if there's anything I wouldn't get sick of, maybe a jazz compilation of some sort? Sorry Movie: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Book: I'll be the fourth person to go TLOR Drink: Black coffee Food: brisket burrito all the way Misc: Solar iPad charger good luck with your five hours of battery life everybody
