But not every January-March is good. Also, if you are comparing years to each other, they can't all be the best, there has to be a lesser year by definition.
yeah, last year had a lot of stuff come out early, i see a ton of big things coming in the next several months
There hasn’t been much that’s hit me yet but I can’t say it’s that weak of a year since a lot of the albums that I’m iffy on mean a lot to other people. Luckily, there’s a ton I’m looking forward to
subbing, I know I def have missed a lot this year so I'll comb through the lists. Jeff Rosenstock, Soccer Mommy, and American Pleasure Club are probably my favorites so far this year. haven't listened to any newer rap or pop releases recently so will definitely be headed into that area
yo the greatest event of the year is and will be Graham Lambkin uploading his shit for streaming Graham Lambkin then, my favs: Amen Dunes - Freedom Graham Lambkin - No Better No Worse (Vol. 1) Nils Frahm - All Melody Dedekind Cut - Tahoe other cool shit: Kraus - Path Anna von Hausswolff - Dead Magic Oneida - Romance bvdub - A Different Definition of Love Pianos - Wait for Love Pendant - Make Me... This is the first year I've really been into listening to full releases so I can't really compare but given that just next week we have Wye Oak, Hop Along, Cardi B and Kylie Minogue and I may be missing stuff there's definitely a lot of music this year

American Pleasure Club - a whole fucking lifetime of this is my fav & the only release I've returned to consistently, but the new Germany Germany and BTBAM records were cool looking forward to The Sidekicks, The Wrens (lol), BTBAM pt. 2, TesseracT, Adrianne Lenker, Snail Mail This take is really popular and I don’t like it because it implies that music exists in a vacuum and that it’s not possible to feel alienated from the sorts of qualities that current culture/community selects for or to identify more or less strongly with different time periods of music
except with the internet out there you can find music made by pretty much any sort of community, you might just need to work harder to find it.
this also feels incorrect to me, because all communities go through different phases at different times, and also all music subcultures are to some degree shaped by current times. and even within communities, if the stuff you relate to is the stuff that isn't popular now, the people who would otherwise be making that stuff will fall to the sidelines and make less music, and you'll instead be inundated by stuff that has surface similarities but feels different at heart. like after I got bored of current indie, I started getting a bit into prog metal, but that genre mostly peaked in the late 00's to early 10's, and then I started getting into 80's pop, which I really love but is not really reflected in current music. and other genres like black metal require starting from the earlier records and working your way progressively through so it might be years before I catch up to current stuff. so your response feels like the right response to "I don't like any music that isn't stuff I already know" but not really as a response to "I don't like the music coming out now" sorry for getting so defensive btw, I just felt really weird and bad for a long time about how I related to music and only stopped feeling that way when I let go of the idea that you have to be excited about what's happening now to be a True Music Fan
Are you into any of the synth pop out there now that’s very 80s inspired (CHVRCHES, St Lucia, Francis & the Lights, LANY, etc)?
I have a ton of catching up to do, as always, but rn I’m feeling: Camp Cope Pianos Become The Teeth Kacey Musgraves Runaway Brother Hovvdy Fall Out Boy Tiny Moving Parts Turnstile Caroline Rose Hurry
Yeah yeah, not the sort of thing I can throw on any time, but when I’m in the mood for it, I’m REALLY in the mood for it
