That is so so good to hear!! I know she injured herself, so I definitely have never wanted to trash her over her vocals or anything like that. It would have been such a shame for it to be a permanent issue.
(I saw them live 2 years ago and I walked out after 3 songs so don't worry, I get where you are coming from. I think I cried a little too.)
Question what are the stringed instruments they’re playing here since this band has no guitars anymore
the bassline in the chorus of Hallucinations is so fucking sick. Just perfect tone and execution and everything.
Listened through this EP again, intently, with my studio headphones, and still stand by my thoughts on this being their weakest release so far. Turning up the electronic elements to 11, and turning down significantly how prominent her voice is or how in your face/present the guitars are in the production, is not the style I'd prefer the band to be going, from where they started out. But that's what they're into, and they've obviously found an audience for it, especially here, so more power to them.
Now this I find fascinating, about art in general; how we can have two wildly different reactions to a piece of music, a piece of art. I think it just comes down to what you want, what you expect of the music, and comparing that to what you hear. I guess that's why Chorus is such a thriving community, a great place for debate.
I don't understand what makes their early stuff special. It just sounded like a dozen other pop rock bands with a wall of guitars from that time. Perhaps I should give it another listen. edit: Talking about the pre-White Noise stuff specifically. That album is great.
I think the first record definitely has some fun guitar rock songs for sure (Let Them In riiiips), but the new stuff is clearly better. That said, enjoy what you like but also let bands evolve and grow.
I mean I’d just argue they are different...slightly. I wouldn’t really rank any of it better than the last. I think people perceived LP 2 as a step down but I think there was an extended break and a LOT of expectation from us and the label. I like the EP but I love the other stuff too.
Finally clicking with PVRIS’ music this year has been a real treat. At this point I agree that each release is better than the last... wasn’t expecting to prefer LP2 since most of my irl friends who like them prefer White Noise, but once it clicked it REALLY clicked.
LP2 didn't stick with me nearly as much as LP1, but Heaven is next-level and might be my favorite song of theirs.
Man I hated this EP at first and struggled to get through my inaugural listen, but then I listened to it again last night 'cause I had to a 20 minute train ride to kill and now I love it. Funny how that works.
