I thought the concept of the article was cool but I do think the author was maybe a little too uninformed about Beach Bunny. I obviously wasn’t at the show and maybe the above was the case but a) Every time I have seen them live (granted it’s been hometown shows) they’ve had lots of energy and the crowds go wild, and from clips I have seen of them on tour other crowds go very wild as well. b) I don’t know if comparing their stage presence to Pup or even Pool Kids is fair because they’re all completely different bands in different genres. Like sure, it makes for an interesting article and I thought the article concept was interesting, but I don’t know if there’s a need to compare the bands. Mixed genre bills can exist without every act having the same energy. Also The above also goes along with my thought of the author being slightly misinformed about Beach Bunny because they’ve been playing with punk and emo bands for years. I saw them with Death Cab in 2019 and they’ve shared the stage with Alkaline Trio, Retirement Party, Remo Drive (Greatest Hits era), Ratboys, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, and others who are very much in the emo/punk scene. tl;dr - The times I have seen both Pup and Beach Bunny they have both had tons of energy and I find the comparison kind of unnecessary as they don’t have to have the exact same amounts of energy in their performances. Not sure if any of that was similar to your thoughts but I thought I’d expand on mine.
I found it interesting that that was their impression of the show from the balcony. As someone who was in the crowd below, I felt there was nothing but good vibes and people having a great time during Beach Bunny.
Songs are great and make a great addition to Unraveling, an album which is only 9 songs when you take away the intros/interludes
I totally forgot they released kill something with waiting before the Unraveling. Didn’t even realize kill something wasn’t on it. If that tells you what I thought of the album haha. but it fits in so well with these 2 tracks. Great songs!
Bringing this back from the dead because I had the dream AGAIN and it was hypnotic. Am I reality shifting? What the fuck is this world?
Listening to this again for the first time in a while, still so good. Must be about due a new record mind? Maybe by the end of the year?
Love a few songs on this but don't like the production or the goofy conceptual angle. A little deflating coming off Morbid Stuff which I thought was easily their best to date (the EP was good too). Hoping for better luck next round.
It didn’t age well for me. Don’t like the production and only revisit maybe 3 or 4 songs! I should caveat though that I think PUPs first 3 albums are nearly flawless, so I had been spoiled before this one!
This record grew on me and now stands with the rest. I wasn’t feeling it at first, but the amount of times totally fine, four chords, habits, waiting, and robot have discreetly wormed their way into my head uninvited cannot be ignored. This record is a certified classic.
