“Relentless” is the best song I’ve heard in 2022, just beating out “Me and Mine” on the new Dashboard record. “You can never admit how badly you want it” just punches me in the face every time.
100% agree. That was the song I probably first connected with on first listen and has only grown stronger in that feeling. Also a great song to run to!
This gets better with every listen. Cutting Off the Corners, Relentless, and Matilda are my three favorites.
Still can’t believe Pup played Coachellaz I didn’t see the schedule but were they just sandwiched between two chill acts. That’s how it plays in my head.
Pup are on a few festivals where you don't expect to see them, there's one in Spain this summer too where they aren't like the other bands. but I guess just a fun rock band that people like. Fucked Up seemed to pull off the same trick, playing at Primavera Sound, etc
Absolutely adore this album. Definitely understand peoples complaints about the mix being muddy asf/wall of sound overload but I think sonically it fits this album beautifully. I also love how in Waiting there's an acoustic guitar going ham that's blended into the mix lol. Just picturing Stefan playing this song on an acoustic guitar makes me smile :)
When I’m listening to Cutting of the corners, I’m kinda hearing vertical Horizon - The Best I ever had…anyone else hearing this?
Anyone ever had an issue ordering from Royal Mountain Records before? I'm not distressed about it yet but it's been a decent number of business days since I got a "shipping confirmation" email and the ChitChat tracking number they provided still says the shipper is awaiting the package.
I still have to revisit their discography but at least lyrically I feel like this might be my favorite of theirs so far. I’m personally a big fan of really impactful one-liners more than entire verses or choruses for the most part. “Like you’re trying to numb yourself with all this work but it’s just not working out” “all my flaws have become some things that make you want to destroy something, and the reasons you started are lost now that the feeling has worn off” - they even did the dreaded ‘rhyming of things with thing’ but the delivery saves it “You can never admit how badly you want it” “But I don’t change, I just push right through” “You said you’ve figured me out We haven’t spoken since I thought I would love the spotlight but it only made me squint” and I think the back to back of Matilda and Relentless are my favorite tracks on the record.
Usually after I see a band live I sort of lull off of their music for a while after but I've only been listening to Pup more after I saw them if anything. God they're so great live and I love them so much. The show in SF a young trans person gifted them a trans flag and Stef thanked them profusely and Steve displayed it on his amp the entire show. Fucking awesome band and I can't wait to see them again.
they just have consistently proven through their actions and public voice that they're trying to be good people. not infallible (because nobody expects that anymore) but making a damn good effort and I respect the fuck out of them for it.
I don’t know their entire tour history, but I respect when bands bring out more diverse lineups (aka not just straight white male bands) on tour. I know this tour Pinkshift and Sheer Mag are opening and their last US headliner had Ratboys and Casper Skulls opening, and Screaming Females were playing shows with them right before COVID lockdown. Also Illuminati Hotties toured with them in 2019 too I believe. So it’s nice that they seem to make a conscious effort when deciding who to tour with.
Fuck, I can't see them in May anymore because I'm going to a taping of SNL on that day (which has been a dream since I was like 12 so still cool). Luckily they're coming nearby again in September though
