Probably “DVP” for me but “Bare Hands” and “Closure” are very high on the list. Certainly top 5. these 3 songs alone could power my workouts for a month.
Top 5 PUP songs (in no particular order)? I'm in. DVP Sleep in the Heat Scorpion Hill Mabu Sibling Rivalry Could see Robot Writes a Love Song jumping in there at some point
I live in Buffalo, which is just across the lake from Toronto, so we pick up their mainstream rock radio station 102.1fm. The lyric on robot writes a love song about how the station plays “black hole sun” too much is highly relatable and I feel seen.
The mix being muddy was my biggest complaint on the first few listens. There's a lot going on in some of these songs and I wish it sounded better.
Definitely agreed on the muddy part, particularly on the vocals. They are tough to make out. I think the songs are going to rule live, but on the album they fall a little flat for me. the prechorus of Matilda is an all-time PUP highlight for me though. Just when you think the song is going to ramp up, it slows down into a really pretty vocal/clean guitar line. I look forward to it every time
Our alt-rock station still plays "Black Hole Sun," "Buddy Holly" and one of three Red Hot Chili Peppers songs on the regular, so it also hits personally here in the Midwest.
Took a few listens to really click with me as has been the case with every PUP album aside from Morbid Stuff but man I love this now. So many cool things going on. Cutting Off the Corners and Relentless are my two favorites and the closer is wild. Can’t wait to see them in Boston.
I’m really bad at Top 5s but this would def be in mine. Also “The Coast” but I don’t have a clue how to start narrowing down past that haha
two songs in and this is immediately the most ambitious thing they've done yet. I don't know if I'll have a job from which to take time off to hit that Dublin show once October rolls around but I should probably pull the trigger right?
Sleep in the Heat Scorpion Hill Reservoir If this tour doesn’t kill you Familiar Patterns This is really hard there’s like several songs here I’m kicking myself for leaving off
Scorpion Hill Sibling Rivalry Sleep In The Heat Factories Habits/PUPTHEBAND is Filing for Bankruptcy That's just right now, could quite easily sub in about 15 songs and it's so sick to see everyone has totally different picks - especially ones like Closure or If This Tour which are some of my least favourites (but still bangers tbf). I know talk of bands being over/underrated is kinda trite but can't think of many currently active bands that have released four albums *this* consistently good at such an early point in their career.
