I think what holds this back is Sleep in the Heat and The Coast, everything before and after that just rips.
This is gold. Every time I listen to it I love it more. So much going on, so many good things. Familiar Patterns is my favorite for now, but that's a tough call to make.
I like it, but after the 1-2-3 punch of ITTDKYTIW, DVP and Doubts, it doesn't have that oomph to it for me.
I've heard this 3 times now, and I've yet to be able to pick a favorite or least favorite. And I think thats awesome.
It was solid, all kind of blended together a little too much but the core thing they're doing is really interesting so that isn't that bad. I enjoyed it but probably won't come back to it much.
On the surface the album sounds amazing, but once I started making out some of the lyrics it hit me right in the gut. I can see where the comparison to Home came from.
The overall feel of this album reminds me of celebration rock so much. Just an ass kicking of energy for x amount of songs and then a slower burner for the closer. Oh, and all the chanting and "woahs," obviously.
Anybody have favorite lyrics yet? This album makes me want to go back to school so I can fill the margins in my notebook with these lyrics.
I kind of feel bad for this album because it streamed on the same day as The Hotelier and I know at least personally, The Hotelier totally commanded my attention. I really enjoyed this, however, and plan to return to it as soon as I can pull myself away from Goodness.
"Every line, every goddamn syllable that you say, makes me wanna gouge out my eyes with a power drill!" "She says I drink too much! HAWAIIAN RED FRUIT PUNCH!" "You wanna know if I'm still a prick? WELL I AM! AND YOU'RE NOT GONNA CHANGE ME!" "You said I'm such a piece of shit!.... that wasn't subtle at all!" "I'm getting serious douche chills just being in this room!"
Shouldn't have let the Celebration Rock comparisons get to me. I don't hear that at all and now I'm disappointed.
I feel like the best way to describe this album at this point is "I feel like shit! I AM shit! YOU'RE SHIT TOO! FUCK YOU!"
you should know that craig, there isn't a band that played warped tour that should ever have those comparisons, however good the band is (and i like this band). just such a different sort of thing they're going for here
I think there's a lot of the spirit that makes CR so good in this, but it doesn't come close to that record (even though I loved this one)
Ha, to be fair, I've never listened to this band and didn't really know anything about them. I don't think it approaches the same energy or songwriting quality. And that opener really turned me off.
jeez craig that opener is probably the best song on there (especially when combining with the second track), gonna stop defending you here now!!!
