The Starting Line - I'm Real Yellowcard - Everywhere A Day To Remember - Over My Head Bayside - Beautiful Girls The Maine - Girls Just Want To Have Fun
This is the best punk goes pop lineup in a while, however I only know like half of the songs themselves
Upcoming singles (according to): http://www.odyssey-music.net/1/media/download/pgponesheet.pdf June 2 - Dance Gavin Dance -“That’s What I Like” (originally performed by Bruno Mars) June 23 - The Amity Affliction - “Can’t Feel My Face” (originally performed by The Weeknd) July 14 - Andy Black (feat. Juliet Simms) - “When We Were Young” (originally performed by Adele)
Why are people complaining about the "unknown" bands on this CD? It's got good bands like State Champs, Boston Manor, Seaway Dance Gavin Dance that are established in the scene. Alongside this it's giving cool newer bands like Grayscale and Capsize an opportunity. Do we really need to hear Pierce The Veil or Silverstein cover their 8th pop song? I'd rather it was mixed with these smaller bands, to me that's more like what this compilation should be in the first place.
Imo the only ones I like are: A Day To Remember - Over My Head (The Fray) PGP2 Silverstein - Apologise (Timbaland) PGP2 Bayside - Beautiful Girls (Sean Kingston) PGP 2 Asking Alexandria - Right Now (Na na na) (Akon) PGP3 Tonight Alive - Little Lion Man (Mumford & Sons) PGP4 Silverstein - Runaway (Kanye West) PGP4 The Maine - Girls Just Want To Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper) PGP4 Knuckle Puck - Chocolate (The 1975) PGP6
Yeah, I don't get the hate for unrecognizable bands? This is a gateway to introduce you to them. That said, I've hoped for the 7th release for ages. They can breathe new life into songs. Hopefully, there are at least one or two gems.
I loved PVRIS' cover of Chandelier by Sia. I don't really recognize many of the songs being covered this time around.
People want to feel superior, apparently being unaware of current music scenes is a good way to do that.
"I don't know any of the bands on this CD" or "I don't know any of these bands on label x" is the punk equivalent of "Hey you kids, get off my lawn".
From the reaction, t's almost as if a bunch of people mostly late 20's aren't even the target for this, eh?
I love this rendition because it sounds like it could've been a proper DGD track from the Kurt Travis era, the chorus screams Happiness.
I'm actually looking forward to State Champs, Boston Manor and Grayscale. Songs that I like from previous Punk Goes... records right off the top of my head: Yellowcard - Today Bayside - Beautiful girls A Day To Remember - Over my head (Cable car) The Maine - Girls just wanna have fun Mayday Parade - Comedown Mayday Parade - Somebody that I used to know Go Radio - Rolling in the deep Hands Like Houses - Torn Gatsby's American Dream - Just like Heaven
It's on the website. I also love that they've changed the lyrics in the chorus to "Strawberry Swisher".
PGP 2 and 4 are the only ones of note really. Everything else is as bad as the Punk goes Crunk one sounds.
These have been very bad for a while. I don't get why they won't ask actual punk or pop punk bands anymore to do covers for this. Aside from SC and DGD I too am not familiar with most of these. A few google and YouTube searches have me On a side note, the DGD cover is very fun. That's one of the few songs by Bruno I usually don't like. Some friends don't agree with me but I think of Will Swan kind of like a Hendrix of our generation. Such a creative guy in his own style.
