Made a thread for Pitchfork’s album of the year because it deserves it! Los Thuthanaka - Los Thuthanaka (March 22, 2025) • forum.chorus.fm
I love this time of year. Simultaneously overwhelmed and excited by checking out all of the stuff I missed that others loved.
I usually come out of it all with a new pop album to obsess over. Last year it was Magdalena Bay. This year it’s looking like it’ll be Saya Gray.
The crushed - no scope album is the one hitting me hardest from the lists put forth so far. Really good stuff there
Reception to it seemed to be pretty lukewarm so I guess I’m not entirely surprised, but it is interesting that this is the first time Big Thief put out a record that has been so absent from list discourse
This james K album is nice so far. I put on the Hayley Williams album but turned it off during track one. Might return to it, but I really only like a smattering of Paramore songs and hated their last one, so maybe it's just not for me.
fav things I listened to from various lists yesterday crushed - no scope CMAT - Euro-Country Kathleen Edwards - Billionaire Mary Halvorson - About Ghosts The Bug/Ghost Dubs - Implosion
The title track from that Kathleen Edwards album is definitely one of my songs of the year. Totally wrecks me.
Absolutely love the War on Drugs influence she’s on for this album. Have you also checked out the CMAT album? Def think if you like one, you’d like the other
The Best Albums of 2025 For those who enjoy blurb writing, Amanda Petrusich’s list for The New Yorker is a must-read!
She and Isbell are a match made in heaven. Just perfectly complementary styles. I missed the CMAT album, but flagged it as one of the picks from the Rolling Stone list I wanted to listen to.
damn, the Hannah Frances album is one of the most interesting things I've discovered from these lists and I think lots of folks here would dig it
You’d def like CMAT! In a somewhat similar vein, the Goldie Boutilier album from September is really working for me tonight. Would be a good double bill. Have you listened to the Caroline Spence record? I thought it was a step down from True North but it’s really grown on me.
I'll add all of these to my list. I kind of lost track of Caroline Spence, but I liked a few of her albums back in the 2010s.
Bad Bunny, not for me. Put on the Smerz tape this morning and wasn't feeling it, probably just not the right time.
bumping the Denzel Himself debut album from the NME list right now and thoroughly enjoying it. dude's got a whole vibe
I am very hit and miss with knowing her catalog, came on board in 2020 and True North is the only one I know front to back. She won me over as a fan forever the first time I heard “Hotel Amarillo”, which is one of my all-time favorite songs. She’s operating in a Lori McKenna space for me now — a master songwriter whose albums might not always hit for me but deserves attention. On her new album, I think “Effortless”, “The Sound of You”, and the closer “Where The Light Gets Through” are perfect songs.
