I heard 18 on the Quietus, probably because I followed their writers on twitter and add their recs haha. I did not like that aya record very much. A bunch to listen to. GVB list is good too
I like the aya record but it also gives me a headache when I listen to it so I don’t throw it on much.
I spent the past hour adding albums from the various lists into a playlist, and Apple Music must have glitched and only added the aya album 60 times........
thoughts on the top 10 of pitchfork’s song list: 1. cameron winter - love takes miles - perfect song, love that it’s #1, do not really care about the 2024 release thing even though i get it 2. smerz - you got time and i got money - liked it, don’t love it, would listen again 3. amaarae - s.m.o - really liked this, definitely would listen to more from this artist 4. addison rae - headphones on - did not like this at all. thought it was trite lyrically and unmemorable melodically 5. ryan davis & the roadhouse band - new threats from the soul - the guy is clearly talented and was great opening for mj last year, but he desperately needs an editor. part of the beauty of guys like mj, cameron winter, even david berman who i think ryan davis often emulates is the brevity. this song / record just goes on forever. 6. pinkpantheress - illegal - had to turn it off. awful. sorry. 7. wednesday - townies - would be higher on my list but good choice and happy to see it in the top 10. maybe my favorite on the record? 8. babyfxce e - ptp (remix) - realllllllly not my thing 9. james k - play - thought this was really cool and would love to hear more 10. geese - taxes - again, would be higher on my list, but i love that winter made the top ten twice. beautiful song
Pitchfork continuing the 2020s trend of a somewhat meat and potatoes top 10 and then a total curveball at #1
I have no idea what that album on the top of the Pitchfork list is, but I appreciate any list that's not total chalk these days.
Really appreciate that Nourished By Time seems to be getting love on a ton of lists. It’s not something anyone I know personally is listening to, and definitely isn’t talked about much on here, so the reach it apparently had is unexpected
It did seem to get a lot of talk the week it came out and it maybe died off a bit? It's hard to tell these days what's sticking with people. Pretty much every album seems to be released, reviewed, and forgotten.
And with his weirdest album, too. You listen to those first two records and you’d never think Two Star would be the place SNL calls
Treble https://www.treblezine.com/the-50-best-albums-of-2025/ I forget that there are this many music publications

I never did get around to that Blood Orange album, which is funny considering I went on a random Blood Orange kick for a few weeks earlier in the summer. I did like the singles. Need to try the Geese album again. It seems to be the clear winner this year for most people and yet it didn’t really click with me
Still working through it but enjoyed the below albums so far from the Quietus list: These New Puritans Anna von Hausswolff Bb trickz Los Pirañas Nadeem Din-Gabisi John Glacier Half Japanese Suede
Speaking of overlooked. I only found out about this recently, but have listened to it a lot since and championed it in the Hip Hop thread: Vel Nine - A Beautiful Day To Die. Gonna be high on my list.
