These Stereogum metal lists always surprise me with how much shit is on there that I've never heard of. Definitely gonna need to check out a lot of these releases. While it's a solid list, it's amazing how predictable their list is. Also, it's almost like they knew chorus.fm was keeping constant vigilance towards their list so they just got Paramore out of the way at 50. Various reactions to the list based on the things that I've listened to this year: 1) Forever isn't even the best song on that album (wouldn't have included them at all, but I digress). I would've included Bleeding in the Blur if they had to include a Code Orange song on the list. Further, I'm disappointed that's the only thing close to metal that looks like it's on the list as NPR has had a few token mentions of metal on this list in the past. 2) HIRS being included on the list at all and Charly Bliss being placed at 3 is dope. 3) Disappointed that Downtown Boys are on there after the allegations came out against their vocalist was supposedly involved in silencing and trying to cover up a peer's sexual assaults, but those allegations never got a lot of traction. Still disappointing tho (For those who need more info: Untitled)
downtown boys swears that their inclusion in the piece was targeted due to other reasons but...i don't know what to think.
well the allegations at the main person were fully true and victoria has condemned rich, but it's weird if only part of the accusations against people on there are true
where was their response to the allegations? never saw that and can't find it with a cursory google search.
Yeah I guess I feel it’s odd that they went into such great detail and then provided next to no details for any other inclusions in that entry
not allegations involving themselves, but the rich thing. i couldn't find anything either but they said immediately when that came out she dropped rich and supports the victims. no actual response regarding the tumblr post but said that it's been the source of a lot of stress for her especially as she is a former victim. they don't know any of the other people named on the thing. i don't know, it's all weird, i'm willing to stay distant from the band.
Also the first list I've seen with Tennis, one of my top four. Critically that album went really under the radar.
Am I the only one who thinks that Menzingers album isn’t very good? They’re one of my favorite bands but I could not get into that album after my initial excitement over a new Menzingers album passed.
I hear that it's a disappointment compared to Rented World and I just can't wrap my head around that.
there are like, two or three very good songs and the rest isn't great imo i also didn't love the last one though i liked it.
I think the three prior albums are all incredible, all three are among my favorites ever. I liked the song about Irish blood on the new one but nothing else really.
I've cooled on it some but I think it's much better than anything vaguely in that genre from this year. Unless we consider Cayetana in their genre. Cayetana >>>>>
After the Part is better than Rented World, but not as good as OTIP or Chamberlain Waits. But I got into them with Chamberlain Waits so my opinion's on the Menz probably differ from your average person's.
It's a fantastic album and honestly I connect to way more of the lyrics/themes on it than I do OTIP, although the highs on that are very high. After the Party, Lookers, Bad Catholics, Your Wild Years, Midwestern States, Black Mass, Thick as Thieves are all great songs. Idk how you could say only 3 or so are good because the first 5 I listed are all as good as any other Menzos song.
CW has some of my favorite Menzo songs on it and I love the style they had on that album, but as a coherent whole it isn't as structured as the others. RW is a misstep, for the most part, but not bad
NZ Herald's Best Albums of 2017 I’d never heard of Fazerdaze before this, but this is a good dream pop album
