Pitchfork at least put Kehlani on the list. Her album should be higher, but at least they didn't sleep on her.
Feature: "Stuff You Might Have Missed" - A 2017 musical guide first part has a lot from my future list, but this may be my piece put out so far with so much to check out
I was waiting for them to post something and jesus this did not disappoint, a bunch in here I love and so much to check out Let it be known I resent them calling Cende pop punk and not power pop
I just grabbed like 10 records from here and didn't even grab everything that caught my interest. Nice to see another publication rep MIKE though.
That Katie Von Schleicher album is really good and this is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned anywhere. Also really liked the albums from Shannon Lay Bonny Doon, and Molly Burch. Other than those I’m not familiar with many on this list so I’m excited to check some of these out.
GFP is great, very similar taste to me. lots of really great small emo/indie stuff and i'm so happy they focus on that. wish they had responded to my email about working with them though...
the indiebros have been REAAAAAAL mad online about the p4k lists having a good amount of hip-hop, r&b, and pop lol
NPR list is solid, all of these have gotten pretty predictable tho Fever Ray I've seen on like every list and have not even heard about before year end lists
well that album just came out like a few week ago and was a surprise release so. the knife always topped lists so that's not that surprising
I will say that by P4k embracing poptimism, as big of a proponent as I am for hip hop and R&B and pop, they begin to lose a bit of the niche tastemaker status that they once held. As I said, probably 80% of the records on that list I'd heard of from someone on here or outside sources other than Pitchfork. Looking back even 4-5 years and there were a ton of records that I would have never heard of if I didn't scour the list for hidden gems. I'm certainly not getting better at listening to new music as I get older, so something weird is going on.
Honestly the only thing I take issue with is The National not being on there, Im happy with them embracing good popular music and it's fun to watch nerds freak out in the comments about the music they like being omitted that isn't actually good to begin with.
In case anyone is curious, these are the BNM records that didn't make the list: Ariel Pink B***d N*w Broken Social Scene GAS Mono No Aware compilation Power Trip Visible Cloaks
