Hyden has been pumping Gang of Youths for a while now so I’ve been on that wagon. All this year end does is overwhelm the hell out of me. So much music and I can’t possibly consume all of it.
Also not just because of my avatar but surprised to see how little Broken Social Scene is showing up on these lists. Think I saw them at 10 on vulture and that was maybe it?
The members involved (Laetitia Tamko from Vagabon, Elaiza Santos from Crying, and Matthew Van Asselt from The Act of Estimating as Worthless) were bound to put out a solid release, but this exceeded all expectations. Easily one of my favorites from the year, and I won't stop talking about it until everyone listens. What is wild is the band originally featured Felix Walworth( Todd Slant) and Gabby Smith (Ó). So many talented people involved in this project over the years.
I love Crying and ive seen Told Slant live with The Hotelier and they were great. a lot of the others i havnt listened to before, ill have to check them out.
I understand why people don’t like the tigers jaw album, its a lot of the same feel/style. But something about it always brought me back in and I found myself sort of adoring it for this.. very simple and catchy quality. It ended up in my top 10 mainly bc I listened to it so much that it felt wrong leaving it out.
I was thinking about that one but I didn't include it cause I can only remember the words "escape plan" haha
That Revolver list is scary. Only heard 2/20. And of the other 18, only 4 appear on any other list in this thread.
not surprising though? they're a metal/hard rock magazine so...generally not stuff enjoyed here or stuff that have lots of less nichey critical acclaim
I assumed the other lists would at least have a few more token heavy picks to show their diversity. I know pitchfork will.
stereogum has. other than power trip pitchfork has not given one metal album BNM this year. not even converge got it. pitchfork fest the last two years i don't think had a single metal band on it, maybe one at most. pitchfork has gone away from having a token 2 to 3 metal records on their list yearly
I could be wrong but don't they usually do a separate metal column at the end of the year or is that done? I don't really read it so I wouldn't know
