Yeah no Charli feels like a curveball for them. I'd take it over 80% of what's on there

Cross posting from the hip-hop thread, but I put this together from a bunch of the regulars' best hip-hop projects of the year list. I didn't know if I should post in here or the personal lists thread, but since its an aggregate from a bunch of people, here seemed more suited. It's culled down from a total 70 records across 12 lists. I've embedded videos for a track from each of the top 5 records, and the other 20 are hyperlinked to a track from the project.

Lol the Pitchfork rock albums list dropped, I guess the only criteria for inclusion was “there’s a guitar on this record here, somewhere”

Their genre lists would be so much more effective if they opted to exclude records that already made the main list.

  13. for some reason it really irks me that the write-ups for the duplicates are the same as the ones on the overall list.

  14. I want to hear an alternate tracklisting for LDR... honestly, think that record is about as close to perfect as you can get front to back. It holds my attention the entire time (which no other LDR record has). I love the mood on it.

  15. irthesteve

That would make zero sense though, you can't have a best pop list without Taylor or Carly etc... If you excluded records on the main list it would be "Here's a list of, well, some OK-ish pop records but not the best of the year"

  16. The Lucky Moose

    Still A Threat Prestigious

Depending on how many good pop records there are that would make sense though

  17. irthesteve

How? Explain how you have a "Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2019" without actually listing the best hip-hop albums of 2019?

  18. username

    hey you lil piss baby

I mean, you just have to put a disclaimer? It makes less sense to (literally) recycle stuff from the main list and not use it as an opportunity to highlight smaller releases.

  19. irthesteve

    formerly irthesteve Prestigious

But it still doesn't make sense. You can highlight smaller releases in plenty of other ways, but again.... having a best-of list that doesn't actually have the best-of that genre makes no sense

    hey you lil piss baby

It's literally just semantics. We already know they think these are the best records of the year, full stop. It's not some rigid structure where they are betraying The Truth by using alternative lists to highlight alternative picks.

  22. The Lucky Moose

You’d have to title it differently maybe

it doesn't make sense to have angel olsen arbitrarily included in a best rock albums list either. nothing about the genre lists makes any sense to me
