"As always, one song per artist. Singles prioritized over album cuts. If you’re mad that your favorite artist isn’t on here, they probably made the best albums list dropping very soon."
Playing catch-up off of some of these lists and I really dig Christine and the Queens (no surprise), Sons of Kemet, Khruangbin, Tierra Whack, Lucy Dacus, and Let's Eat Grandma. Getting me to check them out is exactly when these lists are useful. Definitely a bunch of albums dominating these that I don't like at all upon catching up, as well.
I knew I fucking loved Darnielle. Legit the only time I've seen Mary Chapin Carpenter mentioned anywhere.
The Alternative's Top 50 Albums of 2018 - The Alternative The alternatives list - love this list every year
been listening to a lot of Sonder Bombs today too. Anyone who likes them should check out Gully Boys too.
Cool that Sidney Gish is getting some attention, she won’t be on my list because I still consider that album a 2017 release but it’s still really great
Vinyl Me, Please: The Best Albums of 2018 — Vinyl Me, Please I actually had a ballot for this one, but it doesn't look like it had any impact on the overall results!

Shame that the actual best album of the year ('Starfire' by Caitlyn Smith) isn't near any of these lists
Especially when they've got Pistol Annies at Number 2 (thoroughly average IMO) and Neko Case at 5 (Great but country, really?)
I like the Pistol Annies record a lot, especially Ashley Monroe's songs. But Caitlyn's album is superior in terms of vocals, melodies, songwriting, production, etc. I like her album more than Kacey's, too, though I don't begrudge Kacey any of the lists she's topped.
