i'm not saying they weren't hugely critically acclaimed i just think it was in a very different way than this year.
and neither one of those were even in pitchfork's top 30, haha. i'm not saying they weren't acclaimed, there just weren't any universal top 10 records in rap/pop/related genres (except RTJ but i consider that different to a point) like you're seeing this year with chance, kanye, frank, beyonce, etc
idk i think youre underestimating the way twigs and skm and rtj and dangelo cropped up everywhere. it wasnt to the extent of this year but this was a pretty anomalous year
very different sort of records than this year, or even last year with tame impala/kendrick/vince/sufjan/jamie xx
don't get the hype for the cobalt record at all but i guess i shouldn't complain since i was just whining more publications should include metal releases
that's fair. like i said, just wasn't for me. it's not bad by any means, im just a bit surprised to see it getting such high praise.
Crying is kind of weird to be on that list, that album got a decent bit of critical hype. So crazy for the prince daddy boys though, omg. Real happy for them
porches got bnm and the 2 chainz tapes got a pretty good amount of attention, those would be my picks for "out of place" over crying
The Chainz tapes got attention but I think in the grand scheme of hip hop 2016, they were pretty overlooked compared to tons of others.
