Wildhoney and Mercury Girls made us a year-end mix (listen) lots of great DC/baltimore/philly bands (and more) on here
Honestly knowing pitchfork my first instinct with those kinds of things is stupidity but that is particularly egregious
I agree. I mean some of the point will be moot if she's in their overall top 10 and just couldn't fit her in a genre but it is odd If she's not high then there's a major major issue and fuck pitchfork even more
Well like she said the tag on the album review is r&b/pop and experimental. No reason not to make one or the other genre list
Whoa. Agree that at this point it wouldn't be surprising if stupidity was to blame, but still. This is a relatively big thing
Pitchfork is dumb. It will probably be top 15 no matter what at the least. It is still dumb she wasn't in the top of the genre lists and their scoring slant towards men.
Not like they give out that many to begin with, though seems like it might've been more than usual this year (7)
Also when conde naste took over wasn't their statement like we're trying to tap into the young male demographic or some nonsense like that
They've had like...two maybe since I started paying attention to music (of new records that is). I know MBDTF was, feel like there was one more since.
The Bandcamp list is one of the most interesting and diverse selections of music this year. Definitely one of the most exciting platforms for music rn The Best Albums of 2016: #100 – 81
It would be weirder if there were lots of surprises in there, they've been writing about these artists and songs for a year for a reason
lots of good songs on there. really interesting how hip hop dominated this list is this year, not surprising but just interesting to see the transitions in the site content. of course the biggest stars of the year were all hip hop (at least tangentially), so again, not that surprising.
Dope as hell to see Pinegrove on there. The choices from Coloring Book are a bit odd. I don't think "Girls" by Joey Purp is very good either, he has much better songs on the tape. Really cool to see Blood Orange that high up "Ivy" is my favorite track of Blonde but idk if it's one of my favorite songs of the year. Still not fully on the Angel Olsen bandwagon. Need to give it another another go.
