I actually like the list but wish it wasn't limited to 20. Also, which genre list will Anohni fall under?
Pop & R&B list has so so many amazing albums on it. Chairlift finally shows up! Olga Bell and dvsn! Lots of other more obvious but still amazing stuff!
I guess, but Chairlift and Maxwell on the same genre list still is kinda amusing to me. A good bit of the rock and electronic lists are probably going to be indie pop/art pop stuff too, assuming Radiohead, Bon Iver, ANOHNI, etc show up.
Putting Pop and R&B on the same list is a symptom of the same problem that leads people to labeling certain R&B artists as Pop artists. It's not a very simple thing to explain but in the end, if you ask me, it comes down to racism (even if often unintended). I talked about this in a Tinashe thread before. HOWEVER, I'm not sure you could come up with 20 great R&B albums this year. If they exist, they did not reach me.
These lists are amazing. I'm kind of glad they went this route instead of a compiled 100. Gabriela's list is perfect.
Still don't see the point of pitchfork doing genre lists for rap and pop, two of their most covered genres.
I see the point if the intention is to highlight albums that might not make the best of list at all, but that might not be the case I guess. Strange they aren't doing one for metal. Interested in what their punk list might consist of
