Andy Shauf won't make my list, but it's awesome to see someone hyping it because it's very good.

 

Grabbed the three from GVB's top 10 I haven't heard. Excited to check those out today.

Checked that DIANA album bc the GVB list. It sounds like Beach House meets Destroyer.

 

They're from Toronto I think? Remember reading that one of the guy DJs and has excellent taste. Been meaning to hear this.

 

All respect in the world to Nick Cave, but I could never really fuck with his music. Didn't mess with the newest really. Might need to be in the mood for it. There are definitely some Astral Weeks moments in it, though.

 

Yeah, they are. I also learned today that the dude who played sax on Kaputt is in the band so that explains why it sounds like Destroyer sometimes.

 

It's such a shame the Chairlift record is getting overlooked on like all these lists.

Japanese Breakfast is dope, I heard a few of their songs a while back and forgot to check out the album. Mitski was also very good. DKS (rip) put me on to Xenia Rubinos who is also really, really good. No excuses for having all straight/white/male lists, people!

 

She's from philly too!!! Japanese Breakfast that is. Or at least her old band was based there

 

I feel like those very early in the year releases (DIIV is also coming to mind for this year) always get overlooked.

 

kinda dumb it has to be a separate list but there's some really good albums here. but, man, did everyone just skip the russian circles album?
