true widow getting snubbed for releasing a better album than their last, which was adored, and fucking russian circles getting ignored is some trash water

metal won't get recognized unless deafheaven or yob release something that calendar year

for real there was soooo much good metal out this year and the pubs that ignore it because a lack of major names are showing their ignorance

Realistically though, what would you expect to be on these lists that has a lot of crossover appeal? Neurosis? Khemmis? Astronoid? I agree with you. This was a hella rad year for metal releases, but there hasn't been a Deafheaven or Pallbearer type release that's crossed over for these mainstream pubs to really cover.

On a Drew list each album is number one and each an instant classic :chin:

The Whitney record is pretty great, though the vocals can be a little off-putting at first.

Not gonna disagree with you on any of those being end-of-the-year list worthy. Inter Arma and The Body are both in my top 25 or 30. None of those got the hype that Deafheaven got with Sunbather and New Bermuda so I think that explains their absence. It's all just a matter of perception I guess. But then again, my top metal album of the new is probably Blood Incantation, and I'd shit myself if it was included on one of these lists.

It has been a great year for metal. Blood Incantation - Starspawn is my favorite. Will probably be in my top 10

I just don't often end up hearing of the metal that isn't widely hyped because it's not a genre I spend a lot of time listening to, so I'll have to check out some of those recs

Love seeing Kornel Kovacs ranked so highly, one of the best electronic records of the year for sure.

First mention of Andy Shauf that I've seen which is cool too. Lots I love there and more than a few I'll be checking out.

putting that burial single in the top ten albums of the year is weird both taxonomically and quality-wise
