all hip hop music being associated with each other is a whole other problem. a lot of it is ignorance of different kinds but at the same time there is a lack of mainstream known classifications for a lot of it
id like to clarify this was a response to this post as a way of saying that argument doesnt hold water in this specific instance
Yeah, I figured he put the wrong one by mistake. Just felt like pointing it out cause it made me laugh
We are detracting from the point that he put Taking Back Sunday and Drake over Radiohead and shit. This list is really bad.
I mean, that list could be a lot worse. He came up through a certain music scene, a lot of his list is going to reflect that. A lot of these artists, while loosely associated, aren't all that similar. Shocked at the reaction in here
i can understand loading on publications for their own preferences but why bash a writer for liking what they like? seems unnecessary, it's not like it's a particularly troubling list as a whole (other than a couple things)
His list is w/e. I'm happy to see Jeff and Pinegrove and Hotelier get mentioned by someone who could potentially reach more people than the bubble they're popular in.
Yeah I guess my point was that nothing on there was too egregious, and it's a good mix of stuff you'd expect him to like, and stuff that your average music listener might not know
True. But anyone with a bit of clout who puts Jeff Rosenstock in their Top 2 will get at least a head nod from me.
A few years ago AP.net was full of "Pitchfork sucks" and complaining about the 'scene' being excluded from its coverage (or included just so it could be dragged down). Now one of the most influential writers on the site -- who, might I add regularly reviews rap, pop and many other genres -- is doing a lot to promote this scene and people are still complaining.
