Is New Bermuda the best record of the decade just from a "guitar work" standpoint? maybe. it's a high-water mark for sure. "Baby Blue" intro still makes me feel big things, hundreds of listens later
Fun fact: I was lukewarm on FF after the debut. Thought it was good, not great, didn't buy the hype. I will never forget hearing "Helplessness Blues" (the song) for the first time sometime a little while after the album came out, because that song absolutely floored me in a way that rarely happens. As far as "musical epiphanies" go it was about as deep as it gets
I think you love that album a little more than me (definitely on my list somewhere; not quite that high), but that track is probably top 15 or 20 on my songs list. I think it really captures something about coming of age in this decade.
My biggest problem with the Uproxx list is that the blurbs are super insubstantial and boring. Maybe that’s because nobody reads these things and just searches for the songs/albums they love (and then fires off an angry tweet when those things didn’t make the list) but I want some substantive arguments for why these things are the best. Make your pitch!
No Baroness on either site is quite odd as well. maybe we’ll see yellow & green on p4k albums but i’m doubtful
Supposedly The Fame Monster is going to be on their albums list, so being late 2009 isn't necessarily a barrier to something being on the...2010s list.
I think that's silly, but nonetheless I doubt that Baroness record had quite the same cultural impact unfortunately
