grey hairs, get out of me zoots! Prestigious

Really did not care for the gotcha moment at the end it really cheapened everything. am I supposed to be like "yay the justice system does work!" at the end?

  2. I don't think it's about the justice system working nearly as much as it's about the burden she took on and the work she put in to make sure everyone got what was coming to them, whether she was around to see it or not

  3. Yes. If their point was that the justice system works I don’t think there would have been a movie

I'm not going to get into it, but that tweet is just proof of film fans not understanding the business side of movies. The BD key art is 100% the right answer to maximize sales. Unfortunately.

You certainly know about it more than anyone else here. I guess it's just depressing that it's that way, but it makes sense.

Is it just because people care more about the star than the movie or the other art is too niche?

You are mostly correct in both guesses

the most basic, basic thing that you have to remember about physical media.

    - Walmart is far and away the most successful retailer for physical media
    - If you have ever looked at the DVD/BD section of a Walmart you notice a few themes, these are things that are tested over and over by all studios releasing physical media
    - Illustrated covers rarely sell unless they are blockbusters, you'll noticed most non-blockbuster films on shelves are photography-based
    - Star driven, any known stars are large on the cover (I have no idea why Carey's name isn't front and center here, that's my only gripe with it)
    - Basically.... the best selling titles are down and dirty simple covers. You'd probably be disgusted at how well you can sell an absolutely terrible movie, just because of the key art.

Anyway, the two posters are something you could expect to see on a Steelbook, Collector's Edition, Deluxe Edition instead of the full retail piece. Essentially, the beautiful and artistic art will mostly be used for people who are already fans of the movie, not to grab new consumers

And yes, it's a bit of a depressing thing to realize, but you also have to remember that the majority of the country are not diehard film fans, they just want to grab something to watch for the night. Many/most are just walking through the DVD aisle hoping that something grabs their eye at a good price.

DVD still far outsells Blu-ray at mass, by a HUGE margin, more evidence that the majority of physical media buyers are not diehard film fans

One of my favorites things about being in a critics group is getting the screeners and seeing the alt artwork. "Avengers: Endgame" made to look like a prestige drama made me laugh out loud.

Haha, yeah I feel ya! Something that we do sometimes, and I try to do more often, is essentially create two versions of a release when possible, a quick example is for Bill & Ted 1&2 we have two versions. The first is a 3-disc set with all new interviews, newly illustrated key art with a slipcase, a guitar pick and a set of stickers in the box. The second version was both films on one DVD. Both were released on the same day. One of the two has sold about 10x as many units, you can guess which one.

Hard to pinpoint exactly how I felt about this. Loved a lot about it, & wanna say I loved it, but I can’t decide what I think about aspects of it, particularly the ending.

I think the toughest thing about the ending is the way it kinda frames the outcome as... Carrie winning? Something about the mix of tragedy & karma felt a little muddy to me, especially when her last words are a winking face. I dunno, guess that’s supposed to be part of the tragedy: that, even in death, the “promising young woman” is fully committed to this suicide mission.

One thing I did really appreciate about it is how it showed the lengths people will go to protect themselves, to sweep inconvenient situations/people under the rug. Carrie’s death & the aftermath do a great job of hammering that home. It almost feels like Al is gonna get away with it.

Also, the use of “Toxic” in the score was great. Loved the numbers onscreen that looked like Roman numerals at first but were tally marks, too.

This was wild and I still don't know how I feel about it. I think it was wonderful, I'm just not used to such an entertaining and triumphant tone considering the underlying subject matter. Also kind of went in assuming she would be a lot more violent to her "marks". She mostly gave them a good talking to?
