Was supposed to go to a early 70mm screening today but my wife got the stomach bug yesterday so we had to punt it to next week out of precaution :(

Absolutely loved this, worked extremely well via IMAX, and it has risen to the top of my ranked 2026 list.

Just got back from my early screening and I'll echo what everyone else has said so far. This was magnificent. An absolute joy to watch.

They truly knocked this out of the park. In awe of what they accomplished.

I think the "crew sent on mission to save a dying Earth and/or Sun" genre just works for me.

This was great. Finally, a movie that re-discovers colors and sufficient interior lighting!

Saw this in our cinema’s new 4DX theater and man, it jostles you around like crazy!

Can’t wait to see this in about a week. My family all read the book and we’re gonna see it together. I can’t remember how big Rocky is described in the book but I always pictured him bigger in my head lol. Weird how you picture things vs how they end up in other media

yeah, i really liked this too. don't know if it fully lives up to the hype, but looking back a bit it's only some of the humor not landing that bothered me if anything. people are gonna love this

The one thing I think isn’t great is the framing device. I don’t think the flashbacks were as effective as maybe Lord/Miller thought they were.

I could see that. It worked for me in the book, just as a way to keep the entire first half of the book from being on Earth, but not sure how that translates to the film

my friend thought it was trying to have it both ways with both the flashbacks and the amnesia, which makes me wonder how that'll fare for me if i see it again

I thought the flashbacks still happening near the end of the movie was a little odd as well. I do think maybe a second viewing would help it for me now that I have a better grasp of the structure.

Flashbacks were probably one of my biggest qualms with the book as well. Also did not like Strat in the book. Felt like a caricature imo. Hoping Huller's existence in the film helps with that aspect

Nah it all ruled sorry. This whole I have nothing to complain about so I'll invent something is such a symptom of modern discourse. Just accept something is awesome, we swear we will still believe you have a brain if you don't offer something up to the alter of discourse.

I personally found the flashbacks in the movie more impactful than in the book. Felt important to provide context on how Grace ended up in that position and felt they were effective “breaks” from the main situation

I shouldn't really be chiming in here as this is one of my favorite books ever so it's hard to look at it with a more discerning eye for me. Carry on my bad lol. I can't be objective here.

What? It’s valid criticism. I really enjoyed the movie, but the flashbacks didn’t work for me as much I thought they should have.

its gonna be insane in here when people post stuff like "this was just fine", isnt it? lol

Sure it's valid if you believe in the criticism which I don't. People are allowed other opinions. I also disavowed my original sentiment 2 posts later and said maybe others may not like that but I think it works perfectly especially from a literary standpoint with the setup and knockdown of the pins setup in the flashback. To me, that's perfect storytelling.
