I was wondering where Midthunder's face/voice seemed recognizable to me because i've never seen her CW show and i don't really remember her from Legion, then i remembered she had a very small part in Hell or High Water where she plays the bankteller that tells Jeff Bridges "they looked like a couple of cowpokes". I dunno why that line from that movie always stood out in my mind to me.
this is easily the best film in the franchise, goddamn. goes so hard I love that we see the Predator working its way up the food chain instead of just landing and immediately killing every human in sight. something so unsettling about that and it really makes the title of the movie ring true for almost every living thing in it at some point but yeah also the Predator fucking up some dudes was a lot of fun. the comic relief French guys were a bit unnecessary but at least they got dispatched in a hurry lol
I like that Naru had a similar progression, from hunting birds to bigger game to killing the trappers to fighting the Predator.
I get what they’re coming from… but they overlook that you need a solid story for our main character(s) that matters to them before the predator even enters the picture. Prey works so well because the story about her wanting to be a hunter and her dynamic with her brother and the rest of the tribe really gives a fantastic foundation for the rest of the movie. Without that focus on a great story with good characters, it’s just smashing your predator toy against historical armies. Which would ultimately be kind of boring. I think sorry works so well because there is a story there for Naru that could be told without a predator and it would still be a solid movie. The dynamic between the alien tech and ancient tools is interesting, but won’t carry a movie. Prey was a great film that happened to be set in the 1700’s. It’s not brilliant just because they went further back than the other films. Again, I see what they’re trying to say, but it just feels like a very incomplete thought.
I hope Disney sees the positive reactions this is getting and are kicking themselves for not giving it a proper theatrical release. But of course they’re not.
Mostly stand by my take. Predator is a bit dry and overrated (none of these movies touch the Alien franchise until now), Predator 2 doesn't live up to its potential, Predators is dumb fun, The Predator is REALLY dumb fun in the spirit of the original (genuinely do not understand the hate for that one), and AvP holds a special place in my heart because it was the first movie from either franchise I saw was I was like 13. It's a big dumb monster mash movie that gives you exactly what you want and the moving pyramid shit is sick. Might move Predator above Predator 2, but otherwise...it's a solid take.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, this might be my favorite movie of the year lmao so sick, oh my god. Completely exceeded my (high) expectations. The film looked good as hell, the CG was shockingly good, the action was well choreographed and shot, amazing creature design, very sick kills, loved that it was essentially a survival film until the Predator starts getting involved with humans, love the amount of indigenous representation in front of and behind the camera. It was good enough that even the nod to the Arnold line didn't completely take me out of it. Just a great movie first and a really, really good Predator movie second. Easily the best in the franchise. A goddamn shame this didn't hit theaters.
Predator 2 is better than 1 you're right there! the movie that dared to ask what if Danny Glover and Bill Paxton, for two hours, and aliens are there too. great movie AVP is pretty fun up until Henriksen dies and then it falls apart pretty hard. Requiem is genuinely, unironically one of the worst films ever made in any genre. never seen the Shane Black one cos of the gross shit that went down around it. read a plot summary of it and I'm pretty sure I'm good to never check that out lmfao. and Predators exists, definitely a movie alright this cleans 'em all out and makes it look easy.
I'm watching the first Predator and its so silly how this thing is just one giant muscle flex for 45 minutes before getting into any meat. Its complete nonsense with a plot that I can't make much sense of.
I think Predator works better than it’s sometimes given credit. It spends the first act setting up all this macho bullshit, from the muscle meme to the soldiers straight up shooting up an entire jungle, just to tear it down and show that none of that meant anything. It took actual brains, not muscles, to defeat Predator. It’s why it drove me crazy when these morons were like “Oh yeah, a 120 pound girl could take on the Predator instead of jacked Arnold.” Uh, yeah, Arnold’s muscles didn’t play into how he killed the Predator. Having a person who’s been raised to hunt in the woods is the perfect swerve.
This was fantastic. Compact, Naru has a great story and super fun/violent. How in the blue hell was this not released in theaters? Would have done good business considering the reviews and popularity of the franchise. I’ve never even seen any of the Predator movies and absolutely loved this. One of the better movies of the year so far.
