I didn’t expect to get the metal *TING* in a President song but I’m so here for it. This release has been wild for me, this year has been ROUGH, and every time a new single has dropped it’s been like someone else wrote a song for specifically what I’m dealing with. This is the year an EP is my aoty. lol
My favorite interview so far. Confirms he played all instruments and self-produced the entire EP, and also mentions plans to get an LP out sooner than later. Also liked hearing his thoughts on religion and such. PRESIDENT: “I’ve sat with these feelings for a long… | Kerrang!
The chorus to Dionysus is probably my favourite moment on the whole EP, huge Fightstar vibes. Overall, I really love the whole thing, and I think it's a great start to the project. I think if I had one wish for future material, it would be some longer, more complex, and climactic bridges/outros. What's here is great, but often feels like it ends too quickly. Ive seen a lot of complaints about them online but I have no problem with the vocal effects at all, and I think they actually add a lot to the atmosphere and help this stand out from his past work as well as just sounding great, his voice never really feels obscured to me. I think if I have any issues vocally, I think the screams sound a little weak here compared to the live versions and Fightstar records. I can't wait to see what he does with a full length, and I hope when it comes, it's all new music and not just an extension of this.
I’ve only listened to the 2 new songs once with a VPN (still afternoon Thursday where I am), but I really like Conclave. Dionysus is really cool too, definitely hear a lot of Fightstar on that one and Destroy Me. Conclave reminds me of the Hope is a Drug album in the less heavy parts, and I kind of hope if any of these songs are the DNA for the project moving forward, it’s that one.
Conclave definitely reminded me a lot of his solo stuff melodically, and the piano reminded me a bit of the Fightstar song Athea. Very cool song.
Considering that this EP was self-produced and performed, I'm sure that bringing in an outside producer and studio will help maximize the sound.
Dionysus’ chorus sounds like early Fighstar. EP sounds great, curious about the full length next year.
Listened all the way through for the first time and really enjoyed it. Destroy Me ends way too soon - feel like it needs one final chorus. Also more generally I wish sometimes he'd scream more actual lyrics, because quite a lot of the time it's just the word 'Arhhh'.
Has Charlie gone into why he feels the need to use all the vocal effects? He's such a competent vocalist I'm not sure why they're required. Trendy, I guess?
I just think it fits the sound he's going for on this, it works thematically too with a sort of crisis and loss of self. I honestly don't think most of these songs would work as well without them.
Although I notice Conclave loses a lot of the vocal effects in the second half of the song which was also great to hear
That one almost feels like it has a level of acceptance to it, a fitting way to conclude. I wonder what the approach will be on the new material, I'm sure he's seen the complaints but I'm not sure if it'll affect his choices or not haha.
Been listening all day in the car and while playing Silksong, and yeah, this is an all-timer for me. It’s been years since I’ve been this excited about and into a new release. Can’t wait to hear where the project goes from here.
It's a great EP. I often listen to the songs and think it's like sleep token but the songs are actually good
dionysus is great, yet i do see why these were the last two tracks released. conclave is a grower, but overall a SOLID ep. ready for the full length and an actual US list of rallies.
It took me some time to "adjust" to the effects, too. I mean my earlier post is still up there, unedited. I'm now at the point where I'm content, think it rips, etc.
Really enjoying the ep. Think Destroy Me is my pick of the bunch but RAGE not far behind. Will be seeing them at Slam Dunk in May
RAGE In the Name of the Father Fearless Destroy Me Dionysus Conclave They're all pretty close though honestly, it's a very consistent EP.
